I just got home - had to visit and dash back home for tonight, so only met one forumite.
Good show, though - picked up a respectable number of turning blanks for not an excessive amount of money, and the baby laguna bandsaw for definitely an excessive amount of money (fortunately that one was planned)! Some spectacular slabs and interesting looking burls for anyone with a ute and the inclination.
Steve Irwin Way and beerwah-kilcoy rd (I think that's the one) were both closed when I left to go home about 1:30-2pm - Steve Irwin way not that far north of getting back onto the Bruce, I think, and beerwah-kilcoy closed a bit before woodford... I guess that's the one that has gotten folks in woodford stuck). The freeway was flowing nicely though, unlike this morning with one side of the bridge at Caboolture closed!

Might be a stupid question,
but are dogs allowed in the showgrounds? (obviously not in the buildings)
Thanks, Jeff

The Maleny Wood Expo web site states; "We do not encourage Expo visitors to bring dogs. Dogs are not permitted inside any venues." Whether that means that you can have a dog with you, but kept outside of the venues is not clear. I'd suggest that dogs are not allowed, due to the fact that last year when I arrived a family at the entrance gate was having an argument with one of the the gate attendants about whether dogs are allowed .... never found out the outcome of that dispute.

Yep, was a good day. The oval was not nearly as boggy as I and others thought it might be. Quite firm in fact.
It was good to put a face to a name, Thanks Big Shed, it was a pleasure to meet you. I helped out on one of the stalls givng the stallholders an opportunity to get some lunch and have a bit of a look around without the worry of leaving tools out or having to secure them.
Lots of timber for sale at reasonable prices and the entries for the Wootha Prize are amazing, brilliant work. The show is worth it just for that. Get thee there tomorrow!!!
Cheers

The bridge on Kilcoy road was re-opened at about 12noon yesterday and we finally set off for Maleny.
The road surface of the bridge was only just above the floodwaters, which should have warned us of things to come.
Another 4 road closures and several land slides before we finally got to Maleny about 90 minutes later, a normal distance of less than 30 mins (35km).
Found a park almost next to the Maleny Showgrounds entrance so that was a bonus.
Had a great time, saw lots a very desirable timber, met Enfield guy and his partner, looked at the Wootha Prize entries and the winners and set off back to Woodford at about 3:45pm, return journey took even longer. We finished up on the M1 at Beerwah and had to travel down to Caboolture before we could turn off on Route 85 to Woodford, got back to Woodford at 5:45pm.
Decided not to repeat this exercise today!
Will upload some photos when the forum performs a bit better again.

Spoke to Big Stan this morning and he was at home. Got to Melaney Friday for set up hung around for a few hours and went back home after having 4inches of water flooding through his tent.
Tried 4 roads home all closed and ended up sleeping in his truck for about 5 hrs before he could get through the last route which was supposed to be open but wasn't.
He wasn't happy but reckons that he now has plenty of stock for Brisbane T&WWWShow in 2 weeks.KEEP A LID ON THE GARBAGE... Report spam, scams, and inappropriate posts, PMs and Blogs.

That would explain why I couldn't find him
We had some seriously wild weather up here wtih 380mm of rain in Caboolture in 24 hrs.
Was a nice day on Saturday though, nice sunshine and almost no clouds.

Not worth the risk
That's the reason why I didn't go. We would have driven right through the middle of the storm and no doubt would have been caught up in the traffic grid lock and the floods.
It wasn't worth putting my transporter or let alone our lives at risk.
Better luck next year.

The recent rain up and down the coast has certainly been a nuisance, at best, and devastating at the worst. Losses to life and property are also devastating.
I don't want to take anything away from the event, but, spare a thought for us on the west of the divide. In all that time the rains were doing their damage we might have had around the 100mm in soft rain. It is so dry here all the rain we had never ran off. Our subsoil moisture is critically low (for winter crops) and Tamworth is looking down the barrel of extremely harsh water restriction once our main dam goes from 33% to 30%.
It demonstrates how diverse our country is. Its "feast or famine". In a nut shell.... the weather has made an awful lot of people hurt from nearly opposite reasons.Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

Saturday at Maleny was great.
Stella and I left home from Carindale at 11am Sat and arrived 12:30pm. Just a few slowdowns on the way.
It was a beautiful clear day and would you believe it there was no mud to be seen. All the water must have drained away. Spent more time talking to familiar faces than looking at the exhibits. Bought some burls to play with as well as a bacon and egg burger and a few coffees through the afternoon.
Even Stella bought some driftwood to mount her orchids. The quality of the guitars on show was jaw dropping. So many other amazing creations in wood made by creative and skilled artisans. Headed off about 5:30 for Brizvegas. Traffic was flowing freely. It was geat to catch up with everyone.
