    Default [MEL] Carbatec Pre-Show Sale

I received a flyer in the mail promoting a Carbatec sale.
Our Sale Prices Are Guaranteed to be Lower Than at The Working with Wood Show. If Not, We Will Cheerfully Refund the Difference.
The sale runs October 2 to 7 and October 9 to 14.

I have a shopping list for the show but reckon I'll try to fill some of it beforehand.

On the one hand, it's good to get some bargains. On the other, it is a market ploy to get dollars before the competition gets to town.

If they get your money and you're broke, why go to the WW show? If fewer go to the show, less suppliers attend next year and more buy from these guys in their home town.

    I think I'm over-analysing a bit . . . maybe.

It's been one of those weeks, what can I say?

I just think holding a big sale just before the WW show is, well, I dunno - but it's borderline something!

Friday's overdue - who's holding up Friday darn it!

I know how you feel. I had one of those weeks yesterday.

Today I played well on the front 9, the back 9, well, I played well on the front 9.

I'm looking at buying from stuff from Carbatec that only they sell. If other retailers carry the product, I'll wait until the show and shop around a bit. If it ends up being 1% or 2% more expensive at Carbatec then I'm happy to bear the cost to avoid the chaos I usually experience at the show.

Carbatec are probably trying to gazump their competitors but they're not the only ones. Woodworker's Warehouse had their "Open Day" last week. It may also be a cash flow strategy. I imagine many people have been delaying purchase until the show. This may be effecting monthly sales figures?

Only problem i see with buying at the show is delivery.

Every year, there are posts in here about stuff being ordered at the show and still not delivered 3 months later.

I've had that problem but It's no worse than placing an order directly with Carbatec. I waited 3 months for a drum sander. They always seem to be recieving stock "next week"

I've noticed that too. I can order something from Lee Valley in Canada before going to the show and it's there before I get home. Well, not quite, but you get my drift.

They certainly did! What's more thay had some very attractive prices, and several forumites bought kit from them then.

In my case, personally delivered the next day (a Sunday!).

It's a pretty competitive market out there - more benefit to us - so long as it doesn't drive our favourite vendors under. As always, a balance between margins and competitiveness.

Even in the bigger cities, there's only a relatively few woodies willing to part with the $ to buy crap - entry-level - modest, but good - serious kit.
