Melbourne based get togethers
I've been thinking ,wondering since it's winter here now in Melbourne oz .
And I imagine. that not all of us would have nice cozy warm sheds, caves how ever you would like to describe your space.
Who would be interested in a weekly ,fortnightly, monthly ,regular or un regular catch up of sorts (A show of hands)
My own personal thought were say once a fortnight to catch up in the evening(say 7 onwards)at a local pub/club with like mined .People to talk tools wood what have you.
Nothing formal like a proper club of sorts just a place to chat for a few hours ,have a drink if you want ,where you are not looked at ,for being weird because you want to mention the best sand paper you have just found or not get looked at funny ,when u get excited over a piece of rusty metal.
I'm personally based in the Easter suburbs of Melbourne Glen Waverley, but I can travel.
I know a lot of us have family's ,time restraints .
But some of us may enjoy the liked mined company during especially these colder months.
Gets us out and about a bit .
Cheers Matt.
(Mods if this is in the wrong place my apologies)

I agree in principal but its finding the time.
Also not necessarily keen on driving across town on a weeknight.
Keen to see what others may think.
Cheers
DougI got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

Sounds good in principle but I know for myself time is always a problem. I tend to be either working or trying to spend some time at home.
I Would probably be one who could come once or twice but not able to commit.
It would be nice to put some faces to names.

Sounds like a plan.
Maybe the pub across road from doncaster shoppingtown.
Its a large pub with plenty of room and parking.
Even people from other side of town can get there easy down eastern Fwy.
have a counter meal, a drink an a chat sounds good.
If we do it on a thursday, the wives can go for a shop over the road???

Really is a great idea in theory, and if it was a regular occurrence I would love to pop in, but time really gets the best of me so I'm guessing I'd have to say don't count my hand but when/if it gets up and running I would certainly make an effort.

Your right,
Doncaster and williamstown are the borders from my point of view.
Don't go north of doncaster or west of williamstown unless I have my shots and passport checked.
I will need to go to boogertown, sorry Bendigo in a week or 2 to deliver a rocking horse I made my grand niece, that's stressful enough.
My niece wants me to give her away at her wedding in Bendigo, I told her I'd rather she elope than make me go to boogertown.
Nothing there but paddocks with fences but with nothing in them except big rocks, no animals, no crops, just big rocks.

Matt and Melb forumites, may I chuck in another far fetched plot?
If a bunch of you join the National Steam Centre near Scoresby, I'm sure they would be interested in a group workshop that would also demonstrate to the public on their open days.
I dare say line shaft driven machines would come out of 'the woodwork' (pun intended) to join the working gallery- powered by appropriate engines of course.
Look forward to see what develops.

I have a big lathe that ran off a wide flat belt. That may fit in. Also an old treadle
