    hang on Dave!
I'll declare potential border violations there!!
...Only 'cos my local steam and machinery club (Campbelltown) could do with a similar set-up.
While we are about it, the portable steam engine crowd would love to drive big wood machinery, like break down saws and thicknessers. PM me peeps!

    Ok folks ,
Tonight I checked out three venues .

Fly suggested a pub near Doncaster shopping town.
I think it was geared towards pokies players so personally I would say not what we want .

I then drove across to the Burvale on Springvale road .
But again same as above .

I then drove to the Village Green in Mulgrave .
That's ok ,still has pokies but has a decent lounge area and seemed quite tho it was Monday night.

Can any one suggest a maybe smaller quieter pub venue in the eastern suburbs.

I can think of a few but there all going to be in suburbs like Richmond East Richmond Collingwood Carlton (one of my old haunts)
So parking would be a big pain

If a bunch of you join the National Steam Centre near Scoresby, I'm sure they would be interested in a group workshop that would also demonstrate to the public on their open days.
I dare say line shaft driven machines would come out of 'the woodwork' (pun intended) to join the working gallery- powered by appropriate engines of course.
Look forward to see what develops.

OK, I have to declare that my first interest is steam. I have been fortunate enough to operate a steam engine driving a saw bench on a farm.
It is a good way to get rid of off cuts and mistakes.

Think this a good idea. especially valuable for person like myself that is just starting in this hobby and buying tools and bits and pieces.

And I imagine. that not all of us would have nice cozy warm sheds, caves how ever you would like to describe your space.
Who would be interested in a weekly ,fortnightly, monthly ,regular or un regular catch up of sorts (A show of hands)
My own personal thought were say once a fortnight to catch up in the evening(say 7 onwards)at a local pub/club with like mined .People to talk tools wood what have you.

Nothing formal like a proper club of sorts just a place to chat for a few hours ,have a drink if you want ,where you are not looked at ,for being weird because you want to mention the best sand paper you have just found or not get looked at funny ,when u get excited over a piece of rusty metal.

I'm personally based in the Easter suburbs of Melbourne Glen Waverley, but I can travel.
I know a lot of us have family's ,time restraints .
But some of us may enjoy the liked mined company during especially these colder months.

Gets us out and about a bit .

    Cheers Matt.
(Mods if this is in the wrong place my apologies)

    Default Meet-Up

If travel is not a big issue then I can suggest the Templestowe Hotel. Decent buffet and offers a Seniors Price on the buffet. Cost is around $20.00. I meet there on an irregular basis with group of friends and find that it is relatively quiet and comfortable.

I am part of a group of old rock 'n' rollers in Geelong who meet once a month at different restaurants, cafe's, hotels, and clubs for dinner and lots of chitchat/bulldust. Not all are loaded with money so most places we go are reasonably priced. Been doung this for almost 6 years now and only been to about 4 places twice. Every month is new and different. Strewth we have a lot of great venues in Geelong.

An RSL could be a really good venue as many have very good dining/lounge areas and if you're a member it can be a reasonably inexpensive night or afternoon out. Unless you venture out of the lounge and into the pokies. Box Hill is pretty good and if you wish to stick to that side of town, it's reasonably central to most of the Eastern Suburbs. You may even run into woodturning royalty in the form of Vic Wood. If you're not a returned serviceman/woman you can join as a social member for a few dollars and basically recoup the joining fee on discounted drinks and meals in the first couple of visits.

Your membership is good for all RSLs si you're sot stuck with just the one venue. If you intend to go for meals you may have to book a table.

Just a thought from the Geelong end of the world.

    Cheers - Neil

    Ok

First my second apology for not moving forward with this a lot sooner ,life got in the way(work)again
Which funnily enough is the reason I would like to get this up and running as like myself, there might be a few of us who would like an easy night out just to talk tools ,wood ,metal work ,what have you and relax for a bit with like minded souls.

I personally know there's only so much my wife and family can take of me getting excited over my new tool buy or my latest best build ever saying that looks nice honey.
Exactly the reason a lot of us I imagine hang out here .

After viewing at least ,I think ten possible venues .
Taking on board all the feed back suggestions of venues .

Realising I probably won't find the just right smoky old quite pub I use to drink at when I lived in the UK ten years ago .
Build in 1650 [emoji3] with that just right feeling about it
.And a quite word from my sensible other half .

I've decided to set a date and venue .
The venue suggested by Neil and thank you for that.

Is to be the RSL in Box Hill

26 Nelson road Box Hill .
And I was thinking of making it .
Monday night the 31 of August .say 7 pm onwards .
A quieter night I hope then ,say a Friday night .

So ,some more feed back suggestions ,show of hands would be great ? Really great or it maybe a quite Monday night for me.
I know this won't suit everyone but it is a start at least .

    Matt

    Awesome news. I'm in!!
plenty of notice, no sport on that night, and a venue easy to get to!

Thanks for the organisation. Now I better find some motivation to finish a couple of projects so I actually have some experiences to laugh about.

    Cheers
