Poor Majority
Hi all,
Looks as if the majority will remain strapped for cash but a couple of fellows will do ok if you can believe the media. The owners of the mine should be selling fragments of the rock drilled to free the men, might almost be as good as selling gold
Its seems like all industrial matters now seem to be in the hands of a few who do not seem to know much about what they are dealing with. The workcover dept which is in place seems to be a little blind as to what they take up. A builder here was making repairs to a roof recently and was made do all manner of things and had to cease work until everything complied, two doors away and 10 months later some blokes replaced a roof on a big house without any safety items in place and they were there for 10 days, wandering around like monkeys nothing said.
Saw two painters up on a building working on ladders on top of corrogated iron roof painting the facade of the building at least 40 feet above ground and were working there for a week on a one slip and your are dead basis. So I am left wondering who handed over the keys to the asylum
Regards Mike

I know that most say they don't blame the two survivors for taking whatever their story can get. However, I have a different point of view on this.
The determination and strength-of-will of these two men is inspirational. But somehow for me, it goes against the grain that this display of triumph over adversity is tainted by selfish greed.
I would watch the TV show if the story was about the generosity of two rescued blokes who realised that the real heroes were the rescuers, and the most in need of financial support was the family of their dead work-mate. "I'm right, Mate!", is not a story worthy of my time.
Fortunately, we have the self-sacrificing human spirit of the rescuers to inspire us. What they did was noble and worthy of admiration.

Is this a poll? If it is then I Vote "Don't give a stuff! I am totally over it and I have no desire whatsoever to contribute in any way to channel nines' coffers or to the miners either...."

No matter what your position on this, every word those miners uttered to the media upon their release was losing them $10,000. If we were in that position, how glib would we be? Good luck to 'em.

Im more interested in seeing the footage that was shot over the 2 weeks, now that will be something. It will be good to see how cramped they were and the efforts the rescuers went to.

Ther must be an awful lot of gold in that mine .From what I can read it is $44 million in the red. How can it be viable?
Sheer greed of one major shareholder who is trying to take over all the freight in this country!!!

I watched the interview and I'm going to get a friend to record the North American one for me also. All I can say is I hope they get more money than they can ever spend. Do they deserve the money - who cares. Good on them and good fortune to them for the rest of their lives. And hats off to the rescuers. The risk they put themselves into willingly was beyond compare.
After listening to them describe what they were going through I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Thank god they were together cause the physiological damage would have be horrendous to be trapped down there alone.
My prayers go out to Larry's family and I hope something good will come from his death.

I didn't watch much of this program, but I did catch the bit where they were obviously in the local school talking to the kids and taking their questions.
Just in case the Sustagen company were thinking of draining the PR value from the fact that the miners were down there sucking on their drinks, I think Todd Russell put an end to that hope when he said, "Whatever you do, kids, don't drink Sustagen!"
A nice moment - except for the boss of Sustagen. Everyone wants a piece of these miners, but it's hard to imagine them now doing ads for these drinks after that great one-liner.

A few years ago when they labelled Stuart Diver as a hero I was like “what on earth are they talking about?”. He is a very lucky man and the rescuers who risked their lives and worked their butts off to save him are the real heroes. But hey if Naomi Watson said so it must be true.
What annoys me about the whole thing was the lucky survivors will have a very comfortable life for the rest of their life but the family of the dead one get only $190K. Lets hope someone would do the right thing.
This is not a criticism to the 2 survivors, good luck to them and no one would like to go through what they have been through. It just makes you think what a funny world we live in.
I asked the wife several times to turn the TV off but we ended up watching for 30minutes. Stuff channel 9.:mad:Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

So how come Naomi didn't go to the Torres Strait to interview these guys?
Ironically perhaps, they were rescued on the same day, but are still waiting for Eddie to get there with the cheque book.

Their story has to be at least as valuable doesn't it???

Three men who spent 22 days drifting in a small dinghy in the Torres Strait, in far north Queensland, have told rescuers they saw the planes searching for them at sea.
A 38-year-old man, his 20-year-old son and 16-year-old nephew were reported missing more than three weeks ago when they left Murray Island in their five-metre dinghy.
The men were travelling to nearby Yorke Island but did not arrive.
Authorities searched for five days but called off the effort because of cyclonic weather conditions.
Local resident Aven Noah says the breakthrough came yesterday when the men used their mobile phone to send a text message to family saying they had drifted just south of Murray Island.
"They located the boys and took them to Murray Island," Mr Noah said.
"It was only from commonsense that was used and especially for 21 days in conserving batteries for their mobile and to find the right time to text was just a miracle."
The men have told family they survived on raw seafood and rainwater.
Dehydration
A visiting doctor who examined them yesterday says they have lost an average of 20 kilograms in weight.
Dr Jo Mclean, from the Royal Flying Doctor Service, says while the men were very weak and dehydrated, they should recover well.
"They had managed to gather some rain water so they have been able to drink a little bit and at some stage they caught a squid and managed to eat that raw or at least two of them could stomach it," Dr Mclean said.
"But you know they have lost 20 kilos of weight each and they were certainly pretty exhausted by the time they got here.

Why is everyone having a go at chanell Eddy? After all they were the ones who organised the fundraiser via the two footy shows that raised in exess of half a million dollars for the family of Larry Knight.
Good on ch9 and im glad Tod Russell and Brant Webb are going to recieve heaps as they will have to live with they mental and physical scars for the rest of their lives
