Oh this is terrible, I watched the documentary on Geoff Hannah on YouTube recently, he commented that floods are a big concern for him and his work as his workshops based in his house. Hope the gallery is able to recover like the rest of the town and area

The unfolding natural disaster is taking a heavy toll on private homes, businesses, people ...... and this very sad news simply adds to the burden for many.
So sad to hear of the inundation of the gallery and damage to many fine works of art including Geoff Hannah's truly remarkable work.
However one must ask "why was such a unique work and other valuable art works housed in a regional gallery in a flood prone zone?"Last edited by Mobyturns; 3rd March 2022 at 04:12 PM. Reason: typos / grammar

A sad post
The Hannah cabinet is under water.
Lismore floodwaters swallow $1 million masterpiece
I remember reading about the cabinet (AWR?) and seeing it in person at the Bungendore Wood Works Gallery.
Hoping for good news when the water resides, but am expecting otherwise.

This nucking futs.
What a bunch of clowns.
I had a place on Dawson St go under in ‘74. That was the 100 year flood.
I know Geoff gets a fork to move his kit up the hill whenever it rains but you’d think the council could do a little better.
Where did all the top soil come from ?
Move Lismore up the hill.

That's extremely sad for Geoff, the gallery and Australia. A great work of artistry and skill from a great woodworker.
Here's hoping it can be restored to its former glory, and kept safe from future floods, so future generations will be able to see the mastery of Geoff's work.
A sad time for all affected by the floods in Lismore and further afield up and down the east coast. I'm happy to live in a non flood non fire zone area and commiserate with all those who have suffered this hellish disaster.

Sad to hear, but there is some chance of recovery.
If it was a fire, chances are it would be a total loss. This year, there have been fewer fires (at least on the east coast), instead we are having massive flooding.

Very sad about the cabinet, I'd loved to have seen it one day.
Having spent many years in the Lismore area as a kid I don't understand why they didn't move the CBD up the hill to Goonellabah 25 years ago? The whole area floods regularly, anywhere not on some kind on hill goes under water every few years.

It is sad to see a beautiful cabinet built with so much attention to detail being in a situation such like the recent floods .One can only hope to see it restored to its former status as a monument to a lifes work well achieved.

Has anyone come across info on how Geoff hannah or his commissions are going since those floods occurred?
I’ve read about the town more generally but nothing specific about Geoff or the community shed space that he ran etc
