Dave,
I've seen the firieys on the TV asleep on the ground under there trucks with a water bottle for a pillow.....They looked buggered.....so a camp stretcher would be 5 stars.
Thanks to you and you mob in the local brigades for the extra assistance.....it's very much appreciated....Cheers, crowie

Went to sleep listening to rain on the tin roof and woke to the roar of a heavy shower. No night vigil tonight. Will see what tomorrow brings.
The Bilpin RFS have put out an emergency call- NO MORE FOOD THANK YOU.

Yes, steady light rain here too. A bit of sheet lightning (which is ok) out over the Grose Valley, about 3kms away.
Good attendance at the Katoomba community meeting tonight - reports of 2500 people there. Didn't really tell us stuff we shouldn't already know.
Just heard a big bolt of thunder which didn't sound like sheet. More like SHEE-IT.

YEE-AH! GOOD RAIN! It'll stop in about 15-20 minutes as the storm passes, but a great protective basis. More rain in the last ten minutes than in the two preceding months.

STAY SAFE Dave. I'll put your apology in at the club on Friday night, as per usual...
Remember, if you don't turn up, you'll be made club president.
Also, the prize for the involuted turning is EBONY, not EBONIZED timber, so get them fires out.
I might hold off on the judging until next month.
Your mate, Craig

There's heaps of timber up here that looks like ebony
I could make a fortune.
I'm happy to be president of that is what the club decides. I'm hoping to be back sometime Friday as I'm told we can only so 3 x 12 hour night shifts. Have also heard there may be no transport home lol

Very many tbanks to you blokes at or near the fire for keeping us in touch.
And what does it say that so much food has been donated.
Well done, everybody.
We had an house in the Central Mountains during tbe '70s-'80s, saw the 1977 fire, coming down the Grose, licking at our back fence.
Take care everybody, please.
Bill.

Well, so far so good today. Still only 19° at 10.15, but the winds are quite strong and gusty. Sky here is clear as a bell.
Doesn't feel like the forecast temps will arrive, but plenty of time left for that. The good thing about last night's rain is that it fell at night, therefore was able to run off the leaves to the ground and not be evaporated straight away. The bad thing about it is that it hampered back burning efforts....
The big concern is fire getting into the Grose Valley. It's surrounded by an escarpment (with up to 500m cliffs) and is exceptionally difficult country to operate in - virtually impossible. Last night a crew went out on foot to burn a containment line from Blackheath across to the northern side between Bell and Bilpin.

Different trees, but the same nightmares.
My best hopes are with you in these threats.

Doesn't turn for shyte, though. DAMHIKT.
I suspect that my next trip out to Anvil Rock (in the Grose Valley) to 'rescue' the poor charred & now homeless burls I've had my eye on for some time may be in vain though.
Have also heard there may be no transport home lol
