Thought I'd share this site of a U.S. distributor for UHMW polyethylene where there's loads of useful information on this interesting product... but this page in particular talks about the advantages of using the apparently available peel and stick version made of it.
I've always had difficulty countersinking screw heads just right to use it as a slip surface, not to mention all the material thickness wasted merely to hold the fasteners themselves; this looks like the answer I've been looking for.
Further investigation of the properties of UHMW reveal an ability to handle an incredible temperature range and high impact resistance among other impressive features.
