Act of Nature Shane (used to be God). The insurance companies easy out. But todays Insurance CO's have a heart and I am sure you will be fully compensated.

Hope things aren't as bad as they seem when it all dries up. At least it was only one foot and not four. Do you have a boat.

Monday night 2 weeks ago we went to bed during a rain storm, Tuesday morning we awoke to 15 feet of water in the back yard. Luckily our back yard is a reservior. First time it has been full in 7 years.

I hope your water subsides a hell of alot quicker than ours.

Makes my bith about an inch of water seem pretty pathetic, best of luck and trust all works out well. If you have problems with the insurer just go direct to the ombudsman with your gripe, saves a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and stalling.

Shane looks like a golden opportunity to update your tools if the insurance co stands the test!
But what a way to have to do it through water damage to everything in your workshop!
Makes my claim for fire damages seem a mere pittance along side of yours.
And here we were with my wife(a banana bender to boot) and I considering a move back to Queensland in not too distant future.May have to have a longer think on that!!!

Thanks for the thoughts guys.. But unfortunatly the prognosis is worse than first thought. Although your right Neil, it could have been heaps worse, but this was apprantly a once in a hundred years incident, so hopefully I won't have to worry about it happening again But yeah I do have a boat... So no worries moving over here Johnno!! Trust me!!

My main concern now is that after an attempted cleanup today, I discovered that at least one of the motors on my Minmax Lab30 combo machine was submerged. It is still running though, but I can just see twelve months down the track it will need to be replaced thanks to rust... possibly sooner... Will talk to the insurance co tommorrow and see where i stand there... Fingers crossed...

Agh well at least I arn't terribly busy at the moment and there will only be a few customers that will have to wait a little longer...

Hi Shane,
If you haven't already, try giving the motor a good spray with RP7 or one of the many other non-conductive water-displacement sprays available. That should lessen the chances of rust considerably. Hope everything works out for you,

Hey Johhno, you beat me by about 15min! I have just come back from town organising some stuff for the insurance and was gonna write a bit of an update, and here you have beaten me to it, and demanded an update

So, everything seems to be working out just dandy. I recieved confirmation in writing today that the Ins.Co. is covering everything and has given the go ahead to all my suppliers. Apprantly thats the new system they use now. As they need a tax invoice to claim there Tax Credits they require a tax invoice from my suppliers, So no longer is the claimant the middle man, so therefor no longer can a guy lodge a dodgey claim Not to worry, everythings legit here!. I am quite pleased that the claim has gone through so quickly. I was expecting it to be rather drawn out.

So I have new powertools on the way, & Somethings are getting repaired. I can't ask for much more

As you would recall I was most concerned with my Combination machine ( minimax Lab30 ) and it has been checked out by an electrician and the motor in doubt is being repaired ( I would have prefered it being replaced, but they assure me it will not faulter down the track, heres hopeing! ) And after talking to a head technician at Gabbetts I have cleanded the entire unit down with a mix of metho and olive oil, and it has come up looking and running like new. But I am still a little worried I might see some nasty rust popping its ugly head up down the track ( you get like that working three blocks from the ocean! ) But again, fingers crossed. I don't think theres much else that I can do.

So all in all, the deluge was probably a blessing in disguise. But it still wasn't/isn't a pleasant thing to have to deal with. Especially at this time of year.

So if theres anymore developments i will keep (all who are interested ) informed.

PS It's a good idea to do a stock take of all your possessions and value them at new price. Its amazing how it adds up. For your home/buildings add site clearing and architech/approval costs. Any under insurance is reflected in the payout, even on smaller claims. I'm just a consumer of insurance, no expertise in the area.

Hey Shane,good to hear that things are workin' out OK for you now and that the insurance mob have got their fingers pulled out helpin' you get crackin' again.

Perhaps now you can buy a good router.......pst... wanna buy a Hitachi MV12 new bearings included....cheap your insurance Co can afford it.

No unfortunatly my router was safe and sound Johnno! Shame though, seems like those hitachi routers are the way to go. My old makita will have to do me till it dies. Which I am surprised hasn't already happened the way I treat it. I think I confuse the router for my moulder ... Not to worry..
