Default Rocker's shed in the Sunshine Coast hinterland

After 30 happy years in Australia, I am reluctantly moving back to the UK to be closer to rellies; so my 9 x 12 m shed, which has been the venue for a couple of Forum get-togethers in past years, is on the market (together with a house and pool on two acres - see here ). If any Forum member is considering retiring to paradise, I would be happy to show them around, and might even throw in a rocker.

    Rocker,

It was nice of the real estate people to create that catalogue of your furniture and cabinet making skills!

All the best with the sale and the move back to the UK.

    Cliff, Darren, and Wongo,

Many thanks for the good wishes.

I think Bitingmidge may be able to buy his place back again, if he wants. The government has changed its mind, and doesn't want it after all.

    John,

Thanks. I may not have as many posts as you, or any of the prolific posters on this thread for that matter, but I hope that I may top the 4000 mark before I shuffle off this mortal coil; so I still have some work to do

All the best for your new digs Rocker.

I would love your place, the block, shed and location are perfect. It is also a beautiful home, just a bit big for a single bloke (too much to clean ). Would be perfect for a familiy, and the price is good, so you should get plenty of interest.

    Cheers
    Neil

Pitty I have just purchased a new house ..... only 710m2 not 8000m2

Best of luck with the relocation Rocker. With any luck you will only be lost to Australia and not the forums. Could be good fun setting up the shed again!

Thanks Neil and Sir S.; the place I have my eye on has only 500 m2 - that is considered a large garden over there - and I shall probably have to give away some furniture to squeeze into the house. I shall miss my 60+ palms and 20 fruit trees.

All the best with your move Rocker, and the sale of your great shed... sorry, house and shed! I spent a very enjoyable and instructive afternoon there at a GTG cum Z-chair testing. I can imagine it being a tough decision, and now the added dilemma of deciding which piece of wonderful furniture to leave behind.
I hope you and Mrs Rocker enjoy your return to the old country.

Thanks for the advice and inspiration over the years.

Sorry to see you go, Rocker. Mind you , most of the old POMs I know who go back to the Olde Country usually end up back here in a very short space of time, so don't burn all your bridges Would be lovely to have you back.

One bloke I knew when working at Weapons Research in Salisbury, SA in the 1970's had a wife who was not content, so she went back. He bought a Landrover and a surfboard, and travelled Australia. Never heard if she came back, though.

Another Engineer I worked with in Perth ( millions of POMs there in the 1970's too) went back for a holiday to coal mining areas where his family lived, and he was not welcomed. He had been successful in the pursuit of his studies and got a career, and they were all unemployed for generations, such that it was an inbred culture to be unemployed, many of them knew nothing else. He was frowned upon. And he was a nice unassuming bloke too.

All the best, but please keep contributing to the forum.
    regards,

    Dengy

    Jill,

What you say is very true. After my first four years in Australia, I went back to England in 1974, but came back here in 1980. Then in 1995 I went to the US for four years, and then came back to Oz in 1999. This time I think it will be for ever; but Australia is a very hard place to leave.

We will be sorry to see you go Rocker but I understand your situation, coming from the UK myself many years ago. I too returned to the UK twice in that time "permanently" but last time I was there (1971) I was back in less than 3 months. I wish you well and good luck in your return to the old country and please keep in touch on the forum.
Thanks for all the contributions you have made here . I recently made one of your Mortise jigs (great jig) All the best for the future, we will miss you in Oz.
