Rumours.
I have been reliably informed that there is a rumour going around at the moment that I am recieving commissions or kickbacks for the products that I use and endorse in demonstrations.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I buy all my own tools and equipment from various suppliers for which I get a slight discount as I am in the trade but no more than any other tradesman gets.
The only exception is Ubeaut where I sometimes get the ex-demo Shellawax, EEE etc but most of that is given to Forumites as well.
I have tested a lot of goods for manufacturers with a view that my input has improved the product.
The same goes for suppliers. If I get good service or they supply what I use then I pass that on as well.
I prefer to buy my own stuff so that I can give an unbiased opinion on it and my reputation and integrity is based on that.
If i think that something is crap, I say so and why.
I hope that this sets the record straight.

Ok I going to have to spill the beans.
I gave a kickback of a lemon tea cake, could have been chocolate, can't remember, for showing me two methods of dyeing wood and three coats of sprayed lacquer with his equipment to the final piece I made.
He initially said he'd do for nothing but he had that look in his eye after he shouted me lunch too!

Now you know how Chris Schwarz feels. He has been getting this sort of flak for 15-20 years as a magazine writer & author. Some people are just born jealous I guess.

Tall poppy syndrome - you've seen it all before.
Some people think that all people are like they are, and project their malformed and skewed outlook on life to everyone else.
You don't have to justify yourself to any of us, and it is disgraceful that rumour mongers have created a situation that makes you feel that you should.

2. He doesn't like multigrain bread.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Well done , but what a shame you had to take the time to dismiss such ill-informed innuendo.
By the way, for those who don't know, spent nearly a week with me recently just so he could do a one day demo for our club (Woodturners of the Hunter). Nearly a week for one day's pay - you do the maths!!!
This just goes to prove how passionate he is about woodturning and helping others. A straighter shooter you wouldn't find.
I hope those who have been involved in spreading this rumour are suitably embarassed and ASHAMED!!. I wonder if their apology will be as swift as their their readiness to cast dispersions upon such a great bloke?
SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on those involved.

IMHO if you were getting a "kickback" of any sort, as long as it was disclosed, who cares.
Too many small minded jealous people who wish they had your talent, or maybe they think they should get a kickback.
Also maybe they be feeling guilty?
Disclosure: I wouldn't know if he came up to me in the street and whacked me in the head with a 4x2, but I sure would remember him if he did.
