Rustic Furniture workshop
Hi there,
I need to drum up some support for a workshop I hope to run next year. It will be part of the McGregor Winter Arts Retreat in Toowoomba, Qld., and run for 5 days in early July.
I aim to run an Intro to Rustic Furniture making, focusing on shaving horse and drawknife, and will include at least one day in the workshop making tools (like the shaving horse and bowsaw). It will also include some outdoor work, hopefully in nearby bushland. Toowoomba can be cool to cold, but usually dry with beautiful sunny days in winter!
Costs are: Tuition: $440 + GST = $484.00
On-campus Accomm. (inc. meals) $415 + GST = $456.50
Alternate accomodation could be organised.
<O</O
If you are interested, or want more info, please PM me, as I need early indication of interest before McGregor administration include me in their program!
Here is the link for this year’s Winter Retreat just gone: http://www.usq.edu.au/mcgregor/winter/default.htm…there maybe something similar on offer next year for spouse/partner/kids!!
Thanks for your time,Andy Mac

Hi Echidna,
I need 5 starters to ensure it goes ahead, and about 10 would be ideal.
Cheers,Andy Mac

Hello Doug,
I've tried a couple of times to run courses here, including a toolmaking one, but haven't attracted enough starters. Quite a few of the courses offered in the McGregor brochure are cancelled at the last minute due to unsustainable class bookings, which must annoy those people that have booked. Coming up at this year's Summer School is a 2 week class being offered with master craftsman Robert Dunlop, and at present there are only 3 bookings:eek: ...as the Yanks say, Go figger! Lawrence Otto and Geoff Hannah are here again, but they usually have no trouble attracting numbers.
As for any in the future, I'll probably keep chipping away, and may try a couple of independent classes, but under the McGregor umbrella at least insurance, admin and advertising is covered! I am running a couple of whittling classes at the Woodford Folk Festival this year, 3hr duration, but fairly rudimentary stuff.
Cheers,Andy Mac

Righto, here's the latest on the workshop. I have renamed it as they wanted me to sex it up a bit, to try and make it more arty/sculptural. Same dog different name! If you're interested please contact McGregor directly, your support will be appreciated.

If we knew what was coming up, when, tutored by whom and at what cost, I'm sure that there would be some interest...
