    Default The schools forum.

There is a new forum open here specifically for School Projects.
Please assist these younger users with your help and advice.

If you come across a School Project, or a Schoolie Query that is not in the new section, please report the Thread or Post to the Moderators and it will be moved.

what happened to the Woodwork Forums educational section which was closed to anyone other than teachers and students.??

I thought we were all here to learn in one forum ??

I don't think we really need a special section do we??

Does this mean we all have to put a special area aside in our sheds for education

I think its counter productive teachers are telling the students to go seek advice, use the forum yet we are sticking them back into their own category students not young adults.

Be good if they were all rounded up in the one paddock, just like any other Forum category, rather than having them scattered all over the place.

Also a fair point, you don't always know they are schoolies is something I have noticed in the past. I may also cut down a little confusion on their part if they are not sure of where to post a particular item.

But then again, thinking of their age, they may be a bit intimidated about posting in the "school forum", which gets back to what Ray mentioned: "sticking them back into their own category students not young adults", ah well spose you got to start somewhere.

One of the potential benefits of having students post projects into the one forum is that it will be much easier for them to see what all their peers are up to. I've worked with older and younger teenagers all my life and my observation is that the less confident and able students are much more likely to follow from peer example, "wow she's in year 10 and she did that! - I'm gonna have a go too". Getting them to just post into the general forums means they will be racking their cues up against COBs (crusty old buggers) like me and you and may be too intimidating and counterproductive. There is nothing stopping them from posting into the general forums and there is every hope and expectation that they will branch out from their nest and do so. When COBs post into the schoolies forum they can lead the way by showing links to examples by other members in other forums. However, I still think these fledglings need incubating, at least at the start.

My 2 cents worth...having done most of the hack work setting the SCHOOL FORUM up.

The forum was most recently suggested HERE.
The thread was left open for comment, and still is, however, only three members saw fit to comment.
I took the suggestion through the normal procedural channels into the backroom where it was discussed at length, and a decision was reached ( at Ubeaut level) and the Forum created.

An example: (this is a link to a post COB's )

This post identified the member as an HSC student, and consequently it was moved into the SCHOOL FORUM. The Finishing query that he mentions within that post is still in the Finishing Forum being answered by a range of COB's.

    So, here's how it stands:
    The Forum was suggested.
The opportunity to comment was, and still is, available.
It was felt that such a Forum would be an advantage to the Students.
It is felt that rather than restricting the Schoolies, that it gives them a "home" base to start from, and as seen in the example it allows them access to COB's out in the big wide forum world.

At the moment, I have only moved the current crop of School Projects into the forum, which may or may not change as time permits.

So, there you go. That's my side.

As watson said its for school projects. The students are members and are like the rest of us but have a special section for their school projects which lets their peers and the rest of us know what we are on about. Home projects and any stir they want to start or join in with the rest of us will be as is.
At least that's how I read it.
    My 2/- worth.

Post 11 was not an answer to post 10 even if it looks like it they were being typed at the same time and in spite of hi black belt he won.

I saw Corbs post and even then wondered what happened to the Educational students section we used to have which obviously got dumped because it wasn't used.

I am not against it at all in fact agree love/hate to see grown men cry/cringe when young up starts produce amazing works with tools we can only dream and drool over.

One of the potential benefits of having students post projects into the one forum is that it will be much easier for them to see what all their peers are up to. Then why did this forum as I already ask dump it Educational password restricted section??? I've worked with older and younger teenagers all my life and my observation is that the less confident and able students are much more likely to follow from peer example, "wow she's in year 10 and she did that! - I'm gonna have a go too". Funny it the same thing we older blokes seem to be doing isn't it

Who's a COB I'd rather have a challenge and learn for the young too just as i did from Cornucopia a while back ok he's not school age but 1/2 mine. There is nothing stopping them from posting into the general forums and there is every hope and expectation that they will branch out from their nest and do so. Ray, if you did see Corbs' post I think your comments would have carried more weight there and then, in fact you are not normally backwards in coming forward.

For someone that "is not against it" you did a passable imitation of "being against it".

The Admins/Mods always welcome constructive criticism/input, in fact in this case Noel asked for just that, yet you chose to criticise after the event, not provide input before the event.
