Thanks Toowoomba for a great day. Very enjoyable.
Mat gave some expert advice and hands on about doing it right and his explanations made it sound so easy.
This morning I put it to the test and made a big difference to my chisels.
Once again Thanks
Terry

actually, the "sideshows" were as interesting.
Got to see a Variable Frequency Drive (?) with a 1 to 3 phase converter in it. It regulates the supply frequeny of the mains power, from a standard 50 hertz to anything from 1 - 200 hertz, if I remember correctly.
It allowed Mat to turn an old electric motor into a variable speed motor - handy!
I managed to work out the video camera, and 1/2 way through I realised the thing had a 9 hours worth memory and I didn't have to shoot 30 or 60 second shots, just shoot lots and let someone edit it!
Expect to see some video of Andy's homemade tools, including a quick once over of his "it was a fencepost and a leaf spring, now its a jointer" plane, and his "I found this cow bone and had an old chainsaw bar" spokeshave
If Andy can be bothered, and I can borrow the camera again - I'd like to video tape him running through all his handmade tools. Wonder if he is going to make one of those flash Jap mortise chisels that Goodwoody had?
Goodonya to the wood work video people - great idea.

Surely somebody took some pics.
Sounds like it was a great success.

Photos
It really did happen, and I took a couple of snaps to prove it!
The first one is a group shot as we watched Matthew's demo...
I will try to ID each person, but please correct me as names and Forum names are now becoming vague!!
L>R Goodwoody (Damien), IvaninOz (partly hiden), Dai Sensei with back to camera, Floobyduster, Biting Midge, Bushmiller and (SWMBO) Leanne, MatthewA/Toolin Around, John (Schaf's mate), Bob and Rufflyrustic, our Wendy!
Cheers,Andy Mac

A couple of other shots, the first of MathewA and Ivan in Oz discussing the finer points of sharpening; the next is head shot of Damien' Floobybuster, Ivan, Biting Midge and the Bushmiller.
Cheers,Andy Mac

A couple more... Ivan who seemed to be running around getting his photo taken with his camera phone in hand, here talking with Toolinaround/Damien; and the other of Clinton1 impressing upon Wood Butcher how sharp he can really get a plane blade...
Cheers for now,Andy Mac

A big thank you to all the organisers of the sharpening demo. It really was a very entertaing day and most educational.
Perhaps the unsung heroes were the wives who went to great lengths preparing food while the rest of us indulged our passion.
Thanks again. Great day and excellent company.

Nice to have met you. Good luck with the shed division (in joke).

Hopefully this thank-you is not too belated, but I'm just back to where I can get enought access to type a "proper" post! (The round trip to Toowoomba ended up being about 1500 ks!)
So!
NOONE does it better than the Toowoomba guys and girls!)
We had a great time, and really really appreciate the effort you all went to, thanks for the "international expert", the food, the venue(s), the weather, and all that other stuff.
It's a pretty high bar you've set for the next one!
Many Cheers,
P (&J)

A fantastic get together was put on by the crew in Toowoomba. Fantastic location for some show and tell and a great bbq after, absolutley splendid. Good to see all the familiar faces and few new ones. I hope I was able to convey a few things I've picked up over the years. I only wished I had more time to say more but I'll save that for another time. Again thankyou all
