Sharpening Demo / BBQ, Aug 19th - Toowoomba
Okay,
Toolin Around has kindly offered to demonstrate his expertise in tool sharpening to forums members. So taking him up on the offer we are holding a Sharpening Demonstration Day followed by a Social Meet & Greet BBQ in Toowoomba on the 19th of August.
It will start at 10:30am with the sharpening demos at the University of Southern QLD Arts Workshop. Please note that it is a proper workshop and therefore OH&S rules apply. This means covered footwear. There is safety equipment on site (ie ear muffs and safety glasses) but if you would like to bring your own please do. Tea and coffee will be available on site but it is Uni policy that alcohol is prohibited.
The demonstrations will conclued around 2pm were we will convene to my house (2 minute drive) for a late BBQ lunch / social gathering. There is no charge for the BBQ but there will be a tin for donations if participants would like to help cover the cost of the food etc (around $5 each ). Tea & Coffee will be provided but the BBQ will be BYO alcoholic drinks if that is your preference.
It would be great if we could get numbers by the end of the week so we can start to organise the food. Feel free to leave a message here or PM me.
BTW I've attached a map of USQ to My house.Have a nice day - Cheers

Any chance of somebody taking a video camera ? We could use a good sharpening vid. Only needs to be 20 minutes or so.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Just had a thought re. the donations for lunch etc. If there is an excess would it be okay to donate it to a charity to be decided on the day?
Have a nice day - Cheers

Sounds like a great idea, just have to check the work programme closer to the day.
I have never been to Toowoomba, so might make a weekend of it if I'm not working.

Rowan and Andy - are children allowed in the workshop?
A funny thing happened to me tonight, I was out shopping picking a few things for the Day, went home and made sure I told HWMBO that I would be busy all day on the 19th, "that's not this weekend, but next weekend dear" well, I guess the joke's on me as I would have turned up to the Sharpening day a full week too early At least HWMBO won't forget I'm busy that day
So, yep, I'll be there too.
Cheers

I was thinking of seeing if "The KID" would like to go.
He is 15, 6'0" and has done the Full Induction to the Millmerran Power Station.
Might end up the daughter will want to go instead:confused:
She's 16, 6'0" and has also done the Full Induction to the Millmerran Power Station.
She's still a bit of a TomBoyNavvi

Ivan, I think in your case "The Kid" would be fine. I'll check with Andy Mac as to a more precise definition.
Have a nice day - Cheers
