Shop keepers and employers beware!
Just received an ANTI GRAFFITI package from the Department of Justice.
Big envelope from Dept of Justice...... What the hell have I done wrong now. Must one massive speeding fine, which child has gone off the rails, hell maybe I'm being sued. Open envelope to reveal a heap of guff in the new laws. Stickers for windows, wobblers for shelves. and a heap of heavy card signe to stick up everywhere.
They're joking, right? Nup the information goes on to say (and I'm keeping it really brief here) that selling a spray can of paint to a minor (under 18) will get you a fine of up to $2,268.40 (I guess the 40 cents has something to do with GST but who knows)
Advertising spray cans for sale a fine of up to $5,671.00
Minor (under 18) caugt with a spraypaint can in their possession $550 on the spot fine.
Caught using the can and it will cost $26,428.00 and up to 2 years in gaol (jail for the yanks).
Can you imagine:
"What are you in for?"
"Arrr, I murdered me famly. Me mate ere topped is brover, boof over theres doin hard time fer beatin the livin daylights outa a coupla ol ladies n nocken of their pensions, n Cyril in th corners ere fer doin the bank outa a few million bucks. So what are you in for kid?
"I wrote my name on a street sign with an illegal can of spray paint."
I hate graffiti as much as the next person.... But, they're kidding, right? Right?
http://www.justice.vic.gov.au/graffiti/ They don't show the fines on the site but the mp3's worth a listen. Especially the last sentence. Made me laugh and mad at the same time.
Wonder how long it'll take them to ban paint brushes, broad nib felt markers, drinking straws, You know cut the straw part way through bend it at right angles stick it in a can of paint, blow in the other and hey presto home made spray painter.
Bunnies staff and others look out. Kids with models to be painted look out get mum or dad to buy it for you or you 're in trouble. Please mister just 1 can that's all I want just one oh please mister please, I won't use it, honest it's just for my model car.
Sheeit! Sorry.
Cheers - Neil
PS probably cost more to produce the packages than it would have to clean up the whole of Melbourne. Especially if they used those who created it in the first place.

Seems like you've had a bit of a "spray" yourself, always thought you looked dodgy. I reckon they should shoot the little buggers with a paintball gun loaded with permanent pink ink.
What a waste of taxpayers dollars, onya labor, ya wallies.
Boofhead.

Geez,
I still use the speaker box I made as a teen for my bass amp. Yep - sprayed it black from a can.
PeterThe other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

Unbelievable! Soon you'll see skanky kids furtively plying their art with those pump-up plant misters or pesticide sprayers - they're not aerosols!
The government has missed the boat (again) with this one. They've banned the wrong article; if they're serious about graffiti they should have banned under 18s from possessing paints, inks and chalks etc. It's the medium that causes the problem, not the applicator!
The politicians are a useless bunch or aerosols!.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

I dunno what you mexicans are all on about.
these type of laws have been in effect in Sydney for ages... Go into Bunnies, and all of the spray cans are locked in a cage...
They've banned laser pointers 'cos 4 y.o.'s are pointing 'em at planes, you can't carry knives, etc.
And the new special laws that come into effect for this month is a $5,500 fine for annoying a world Youth Day participant... That wasn't a typo...
As I said, dunno what you're whinging about
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Funny timing.
I was in Bunnings the other day and noticed the spray cans in a cage. The little girl, er young lady, explained it's for graffiti and also inhaling. I couldn't resist alarming her pointing out when I were a lad you could buy guns in K Mart...should have seen the look on her face
I used to be a target shooter until...and I was somewhat bemused when security confiscated my swiss army knife at a show some years back. I don't carry it anymore.
Graffitti is rather less offensive now, although perhaps more prolific. I am not prepared to believe kids are more likely to kill, speed, vandalise, have sex, drink or take illegal drugs now, especially when I think what WE got up to.
My elected reps send me big packets of junk mail all the time. My taxes at work. As long as people believe what they see on TV and continue voting for idiots I don't see how things will improve...
Most people need something to believe, I believe I'll have another drink...

Wait! No one told you your government was a sitcom?

That makes me laugh as well - show me one plane that has been bought down with a laser pointer, or one pilot who has had their sight affected by one.
No, I wouldn't want to look at one at point blank range, but then I wouldn't want to have a point blank experience with a dart either, and they are still available in the kid's section at K Mart.
Like many others here, I grew up with air rifles, fire crackers, spray cans and a host of other 'evils'. Sure, there are accidents because of idiots, but the way we are going, there will be a compulsory in-vivo application of bubblewrap in the not too distant future."Clear, Ease Springs"

All those signs all over the place will look heaps better than graffiti! When I was a lass, graffiti was all swearing. Now swearing is so passe. Its some other big kinda writing that no one can read anyway.

I heard of a youth perpetrating a 'laser attack' upon a police helicopter being arrested last weekend. What is stupider than attacking a police helicopter with a harmless optical device? Being caught for doing it!
