Special Australia Day treat
Happy Australia Day
Monday 26th 2009
Here's a very special Australia Day treat for everyone.
In 1988 Hawthorn & Melbourne played off for the AFL Grand Final at the MCG
Prior to the game a bloke sang what has arguably become known as the greatest ever rendition of Waltzing Matilda.
That bloke was none other than Woodwork Forums Administrator, Watson.
Here just for you is the song as it was seen live in 1988.
Goodonya Noel you're a bloody legend mate.

Thanks for the post Ubeaut. I had a deep appreciation of Mr Watson's vocal talents way back then and noted a Watson signing as Noel on the forums when I joined 16 months ago. Met the gent at last years Melbourne WWS and started to wonder. Suspicions now confirmed.

Certainly a rendition that had stayed in my mind for all the right reasons.
Have met Noel at last 2 WWW shows - a man of many talents who modestly admitted to singing that when asked.Tom

Sorry to be a contrarian.
While recognising the vocal talents of Mr Watson, I think that that rendition sounds more like an American Country and Western song.It bears no relation to the original tune, or, dare I say it, the original words!!
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY!!!!

I remember that as if it were yesterday. I was impress and moved by the performance then just as I was when I heard it today. When it finished my two year old daughter just said...
more music daddy? lovely singing...
She made me play it again.
what more can I say. but thanks for sharing some of your talent Noel.
all the best

Beaudy mate. Well done.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

How can you end a comment like that with "Happy Australia Day!" - The man did an awesome job from the bottom of his heart, and you give him a ribbing for it? Where were you and your amazing vocal abilities on the day? were you at home reciting english poetry when he was singing this? are you up there singing in front of thousands, nervous as hell, but keen all the same cause it is what us aussies do! grow up.
Great stuff NoelSteve
