Well the show is done and dusted. I went on the Sunday. I found the parking to be very adequate, especially for the disabled. The parking attendants were very helpful and courteous.
The venue was good. The quality of the school entries was outstanding. The number and variety of stands was good. The food is as always overpriced. (eg $25 for a small chicken schnitzel and chips!!!)
Overall I was impressed by the new format.
I am hoping it will get bigger and better as time goes on.
I will go again next year. Certainly.
Lyle.

I thought that the show was brilliant!!
Massive thanks to the organisers [emoji106]
What other shows are on in Sydney and surroundings.
I’m particularly interested in ones that the timber merchants visit selling timber slabs?
Cheers Matt

11th June 2019, 11:52 PM #48Also, my blind friend bought a Japanese saw at the show. However, when he got home it wasn't in his backpack. It's possible that it came out of his backpack when he took his lunch out. We were sitting outside the stand, and there were school students at the tables on either side of us. The students were wearing navy blazers, and I think they were probably part of the largest school group at the show. If the organisers could let me know which school it may have been so they can be contacted that would be much appreciated. Please note, there is NO suspicion that a student may have stolen it, but someone may have seen it after we left.
Also, I understand the organisers are following up some information.

Drums at the Wood show
This was my first time exhibiting and running workshops at Sydney.
I have been going to the shows for many years and like many others was concerned they would disappear.
A couple of years ago Christian (Mirka Best Abrasives) asked me to bring my African drums to a new style show. The Illawarra Festival of Wood. I have been to both of their Shows and thought the more Hands-on wood show had promise.
Malcolm Ward/Boutique Timbers convinced me to apply to the new organisers of the Sydney wood show. I am a one man show so this was a big challenge for me.
The organisers, Brendon and Candice were very helpful before and during the show.
The other exhibitors, who know me a little too well, were supportive.
The customers were enthusiastic and kindly attended my workshops and bought drums and kits to make their own.
My African musician friends gave their time to come along and perform and entertain.
As you can see in the pics, we had many young people, men and women and even older guys like me, having fun with the drums.
I got a couple of complaints about the noise that I thought was funny with all the machines operating at the show. But people either love or hate drums.
I gave a kit to the TAFE guys for a new student project and got invites to do demonstrations and workshops from a few groups.
A few Forum friends dropped by.
My only problem was not having enough time to buy all the new tools and timber. But I did manage to get a few things.
I think the new format is a good move and the positive comments from the people and other exhibitors I spoke to gave the show a great atmosphere.Scally

Sounds a bit like the one we have in Perth which has now been combined with knitters and sewers !
It gets smaller and smaller each year with the same tedious windbags wheeled out each year for the same old boring demonstrations. I am sure many people enjoy it despite being ripped off $5 for parking before making a long walk to join a long queue. There is or was at least some reasonable quality timber to buy.
I am sure at least the organisers make some money out of the venture.

Thank you to all those who actually attended and provided feedback/pictures. The consensus seems to be that the show was a succcess. Looking forward to the Melbourne show!

Where is the traditional post with the show photos? Perhaps it didn’t happen?

If you want to see what the show was like, Dave Stanton did his usual 1hr YouTube videocast live from the show on Sunday morning, and went walkabout during it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2dSa9P8B6A

I didn't get there this year Paul; too much feet & back pain to walk around the venue.... And yes I'm pretty disappointed NOT MANY PHOTOS...
On another note, I spoke with one of the vendors today who was at 6's and 7's about the show and the venue; something I'd heard secondhand but this was first hand; NOT GOOD!

Can you elaborate what your friend meant by "not good"
