Timber auction this Saturday
There's an auction of about 150 lots of a wide variety of timbers per this flyer that Grumpy John kindly emailed to me.
I would love to avail myself of some of the English Oak and Elm on offer, but the lots contain far more than my immediate requirements and I have the additional problem of insufficient storage space!
So, if anyone would be interested in going in with me on one or two of the lots, then please PM me. I can also email the manifest to anyone who's interested.

Hi WW.
If you have details on what specifically is up for sale, I might be interested in splitting some with you.
I live nearby so it will be quite easy for me to get down there.
Cheers,

Here is an Excell file Attachment 99715 of the complete range of Timber that'll be up for Auction. Been meaning to put this up but kept forgetting
Also be advised that the list starts from the bottom so scroll up not down
I have been told that Nick will be letting this this go at reasonable prices unless you lot push it upCheers

I was down at Cerberus a few weeks ago and picked up a few burls from there. I also got a look at some of the packs and can tell anyone interested there is some very nice wood amongst it. Anyone who makes guitars would do some special stuff with some of the back sawn red cedar, there is huon in that pack too
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

I called in to ART today to check out what is up for auction and there is some spectacular stuff there. Unfortunately the pack sizes are too much for me to buy on my own (both in quantity and $ value). If anyone in the Frankston/Carrum Downs area is interested in splitting a pack PM me and perhaps we can organise a co-op purchase. Oh my interest lies mainly in bowl turning.

Tell him I said G'day back
Should also mention that what doesn't sell, will be coming up here to Bowerbird Saved Timber, so it will still be available after the auction.Cheers

Sorry everyone, I enquired if any of the Elm and Oak were available in smaller lots than those advertised and I received an email from the guy selling the timber. He's prepared to sell me one Elm board, pre-auction, for $1,200.00 or two for $1,800.00.
That's me out of it!
DJ, if it doesn't sell on Saturday, and the prices become more realistic by the time any surplus timber reaches you, I'd be interested in some Elm and Oak please..

What sizes were you enquiring on? They'd have to be bloody good for that price , maybe he mean't to say $120 & $180

I did wonder if his calculator was on the blink, but he clearly indicated the price would be "...both for $1800.00, or $1200.00 each".
The timber purportedly came from the MCG in 2001, but I don't care if Donald Bradman took a pi55 around the back of the tree, there's no way on earth I, or anyone else in their right mind would pay those prices just for that provenance.
I used to sell similar sized Elm boards that I milled from trees that came from Fitzroy Gardens, the MCG, Albert Park and various Avenues of Honour around Victoria for $100-$350..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

If that's seriously the price they're going for, then I'm out.
I might drop by the auction just in case no one else does and I'll buy them for a few bucks each, otherwise that's far too much money for a new woodworker to spend on some wood. MCG or not.___________________________________________________________

Just got back from the auction. I had to leave early for fear that I might end up needing to sell our house.
Some people there certainly got some whopping deals. I was pretty happy with the lots I picked up. I'm sure there are some other very happy people today as well (except for Nick!)
Cheers,
Af.___________________________________________________________

I almost didn't go but figured that I might as well take a look. Glad I did.
Whilst I was there, quite a few lots went for sub $1000. There were also a number at over that and a couple over $2k. Many got passed in so there will still be plenty of opportunity to buy I think.___________________________________________________________
