Wagga Turnabout
I had a wonderful experience at the weekend - the annual Wagga Turnabout held by the Riverina Woodworkers club at Borambola just out of Wagga. For a first timer and a 'learner' turner I was made feel very welcome by everyone there.
was extremely helpful and patient in showing me the ways of the Skew - I have a long way to go, but now it is not such a 'scary' tool even tho there are still lots of catches I even managed a few beads and coves. Thanks !
Ken Wraight showed me how he makes a small finial then had me in the drivers seat!! I managed (with lots of help!) to make a reasonable finial - one I am very proud of and never thought I would be able to achieve at this point - if ever. Thanks Ken.
Larry Sloan (who was organising the event) showed me how to turn a block of wood into a lovely shaped bowl with 's assistance. I still have a few coats of danish oil to put on this, but I think it is just lovely. Thanks Larry
Everyone there was so willing to give advice, explain what they were doing, share their tips, show me jigs and attachments they have made, a couple of which I am going to see if my brother can turn on his metal lathe for me. (Ray if you read this - be prepared!! ).
Jim Carroll was there with his mobile shop - thanks for bringing up the set of tools Jim - it made turning so much easier using good chisels!
The venue and catering were excellent, and my only gripe for the weekend would have been the heat, which is out of everyone's control, but once I bought a fan that was better! (and the sleeping quarters were airconditioned which was great )
Thanks to all concerned for a fantastic learning and turning weekend, one I hope to attend next year.
Gloria

Gloria glad you had a good weekend.
The heat was uncomfortable but as you said you can get around that.
These weekends are a very sociable weekend for all.Jim Carroll
