Thread: My new web site

Hi Alex.

When I first logged on to your site I found it very "jerky" in as far as the windows opened up slowly or erratically. I put it down to heavy web traffic but revisited again and got the same.

I would prefer a smooth transition when you open a new window...a bit of fade out and in, if possible.

I also think there is a heavy emphasis on your written word when it may be better to let the photo's of your ( fantastic) work do the talking.

I must say I'm still bloody impressed....I have been threatening to do one for years ...all threats - no action.

Love the site. Easy to navigate and use, the Gallery is great! (that cube box has me intrigued ), but, sorry, I hate the black background. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to view and it really hurts my eyes

I agree. If you are trying to show what people can get from you, I would start with examples of your boxes and furniture. I would also make the Gallery link a bit more prominent and put the stuff about ordering and who you are lower down in terms of prominenece (and in that order).

The work is great and will almost sell itself - don't hide it.

Thanks everyone for your comments & constructive criticism. As I read them, a summary is:
too much text,
use pics of products rather than tools (and make it obvious what they are - thanks John)
put email buttons in more prominent positions
sort out transition between pages
and of course, put the WWF in my links.
opinions seem to be split about the background, font & text colours. Some love it, some hate it. I tried with various woodgrain backgrounds, but they looked either bland or distracting.

I'm sure there's more that Bodgie will show me about over a beer. Thanks again.

Great website, Alex. best wishes for some 'paid work' that will come from commissions.

One of the first things we had to do at Sturt was build a seat from bamboo - that's my throne; relaxed in it often with a beer after work for the whole year.

I also love your beautiful work..... but could only see very few items from your gallery.
Not sure if that's because it's the end of the month and we've used up our limit on broadband ( down to 64k now) or if it's something else.
For us poor deprived slow broadband folks the site loads very slowly due to all the photos... I know.. those are the reason they are there..

Not sure if there's a fix... but sure would have liked to be able to view the rest of your work.
As it is.. when trying to click on a folder the photo in it changed to one or two different ones, but no new page opened.

Maybe it's me?

Hi Alex,

Site looks good. I really enjoyed your gallery. I remember seeing the Icosahedron box made out of huon pine when I did a community college wood working course with you in Asquith about 2 years back... That box is a beautiful bit of work. Really enjoyed the course, BTW (and eventually finished the change table I was making...)
