Woodies' event
Hello,
As part of my new job at Cobb+Co Museum in Toowoomba I have been helping to organise a Woodies event, which we are running in conjunction with a bigger festival, 23-24 Feb. The whole weekend will be full of creative types in various media (stone, metal, timber, textiles, jewellery etc), with opportunities for the general public to have a go, or take 2 hour workshops, plus demos of wheelwrighting and blacksmithing.
The Woodies section will feature several of the woodworkers clubs in the region (Kingaroy to Stanthorpe) displaying their wares, a stand by local woodwork tool specialist Toowoomba Woodworks, and a couple of master classes on Saturday 23rd. They will cover both design and practical outcomes, as detailed below:
DESIGN MASTERCLASS WITH NEW INVENTORS PANELIST RICHARD VAUGHAN- Richard Vaughan has been designing and making one-off pieces to commission for almost 30 years, and has been teaching/sharing this joy for 20 years. Richard's woodwork students are typically adults with "real jobs" who crave tangible expressions of a part of their self that tends to get set aside in their daily lives.
His 5 years on the panel of The New Inventors constantly reaffirmed the creative, inventive side of all manner of people.
This 2hr masterclass is being held at Cobb+Co Museum in Toowoomba on the morning of Saturday 23 February for only $40. This includes morning tea, and an afternoon skills forum lead by Frank Wiesner, Master craftsman and Andrew MacDonald local wood and metal sculpture artisan.
For more information phone Cobb+Co Museum on 07 4659 4900, or email [email protected]
It should be a great weekend, with opportunities for networking, learning new skills, or simply taking in the museum with its collection of beautiful old horse drawn vehicles!
For an idea of the range of other workshops or skills on offer please see the attached pdf.
Cheers,Andy Mac
