    Default Damper

Was reading a book on John Forest the WA explorer, and his 1874 expedition, Carnarvon to N/S telephone line. At the end there was a comment that they found if they used boiling water to make there damper with it was much lighter. Most recipe's I have seen use tap water. Has anyone tried the boiling water?.

Whenever I decide I want to make a damper, SWMBO dives in first and makes scones instead. (She actually thinks it is her kitchen). I have a heap of fire bricks laying about, and want to make a damper in the camp oven in the yard, using heat beads, and so I will have a to using the boiling water method. I will make a neat oven without using any mortar, just the fire bricks, and try this out.

Perhaps John Forest had to kill of a few weevils as well.
