7D's first outing - Jenolan Caves
Took my new toy to Jenolan Caves. This is a compressed sample. Only used my 50mm lens, shots were handheld and no flash used. ISO was 3200.
I have posted a few in the album on Google+.

Thanks Ray, I'm pretty pleased with the way they came out. My 350D was horrible at ISO400 and above, so I was a bit worried with using 3200. But the camera has exceeded my expectations in this regard. Would love to try HDR in there...lol

Those inside shots are really something - especially at the high ISO. I like the one of Caves House too - looks like they have repainted since I was last there.
Does the 7D have auto ISO? That is, can it be set to automatically increase the ISO when the shutter speed falls below a certain amount.?
Somewhere I have a panorama that I took of the Grand Arch and Blue lake that was taken from up the hill a bit. It was from memory 16 frames stitched together so you get the entire wall and the lake

Yes Avery, the 7D has Auto ISO. First couple of shots were set at 100, not much cop being hand held...lol
I then did a couple at 800 but still had a bit of camera shake. So I thought I'd try Auto. Most were 3200, a couple were 1600. Outside ones were all 100. The 7D goes up to 6400 and 12800 if you allow it in a Custom function. Just wish I had a decent IS lens.....lol
The Caves House looked awesome as did the Blue Lake, couldn't believe the colour....
I did a B&W version of the Caves House that I put up on FB, I'll put it on Google+ too...

Nice shots Bob, good to see you're enjoying the 7D .
Once you go down the HDR path you'll find it opens up a whole new world of photography. You've prolly already got a tripod so grab one of these and off you go. I've got my C1 setting set to F11, 100 ISO, exposure compensation at +1 +2 +3 stops and drive set to high speed. The C2 setting is set to F11, 100 ISO, exposure compensation -1 -2 -3 stops and drive also set to high speed. I'll take a shot at F11 100 ISO and no exp.comp. and one set of shots on C1 and another set of shots on C2. and you've got 7 shots ready for merging. You've probably got more exposures than you'll need but they're there if you need 'em. The ISO setting is OK for general outdoor shots but it would be too slow for something like the caves and you may have to ramp it up a bit, DON'T use auto ISO when shooting HDR.
Here's some I prepared earlier Graffiti Old Melbourne Gaol.

Thanks GJ. I already ordered the switch. Nice idea about C1 and C2. The cave is the first time I've ever shot Auto ISO, it's normally set at 100, but that was useless in the cave. I'll have to get an IS lens to help....lol
