I wonder how many people know what the little knob in the middle of the platen feed knob does.

Left in the out position, the platen ratchets one line at a time.
Pressed in and the platen free-wheels.
    Cheers,

So where is the carriage return lever?

I was wondering how many people would know that.

So did you leave the photo of all the typewriters on your desktop?

I have a very vague recollection that the platen knob could also enable micro-adjustment of the line spacing. Which seems to be verified in US patent 4456395. But in a Google search for info, I found a typewriter with the lever on the right.

Found under "Locking and unlocking the carriage" here: Remington Portables

The hook and the correct-reading lettering indicate it isn't a mirror image.

Looks clumsy to operate, but I suppose it's possible to accustom oneself.

Also, IIRC, a halfway engagement of the lever did the CR without LF.

    Cheers,
    Joe
