Default Does anyone know what bird this is

I saw a bird (only from the back) and a chick 20 - 25 metres high in gum tree. Location is MacMasters Beach NSW about a kilometre from the beach. Time was around 6.30 - 7.00 pm. Light not the best. I thought it was grey with white bits, but the photos I edited this morning indicate brown with white bits. The noises it made were something like a currawong first learning to speak. I first thought one of the larger cuckoos but what would one of those be doing with a chick? I took a series of photos and cropped them to maximum possible. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Edit: It is quite large. I would estimated 40 - 50 cm.

    Regards

Thank you cliff and arron. I think you are correct. Sound from MM guide is close enough to my recollection and this afternoon I spotted a nest in one of the outer limbs that matches MM guide book description

    Best wishes
