One of those days
Went to the club today, home by 1.00pm, then 3.00pm smelled smoke in
the rear of our property. Three large conifers well ablaze and it travelled
North then East along our boundary. Twenty four were destroyed and
was controlled by volunteer firefighters within six trees of the house. I have
49 of them along two fences. They worked on it from 3.00pm until 8.45pm
and put in a great effort.
Naturally I will make a donation to the local volunteers as there were fire
trucks from Wallan, Darraweit Guim, Kilmore and Kalkallo in attendance. We
are particularly indebted to a young bloke, (I have his name) who was working
on a road gang nearby and saw the plumes of smoke. He came up in his ute
and immediately assisted me whilst we waited for the brigades (20 mins).
I put out a spot fire only one foot from the workshed wall with a couple of
buckets of water ... I had to give it preference with my lathe and wood inside.
I have absolutely no firm idea on how it started - we may never know.
Pic attached ... not very good quality ... check out the height of the flames
in the centre (had to be around 50 feet) and travelling quickly.

May have a lead on the origin of the fire. A neighbour has a video which
will be shown to me tomorrow. Police have been asked to assist which
may prove how the problem arose.

The difference between light and hard is that you can sleep with the light on.
