    Default Monitor suggestion

I'm currently post processing in Lightroom on my laptop, and now wish to add a separate monitor to improve the process.
Something like a 24" IPS sounds like it may be suitable. Possibly a BenQ PD2500Q or Dell Ultrasharp U2419H
If anyone has suggestions on brand, model etc. it may assist with my choices.

    Regards
    Keith

If you are serious about colour then the benq SW series is the way to go. The SW 27 inch achieves delta e of less than 1. I believe it is the best budget colour accurate monitor without having to buy eizo etc.

I have owned the previous generation Dell u322 inch ultrasharp (don't remember the model number), sw320 and sw320c and the sw320c is the most accurate with uniform backlight.

If you are looking at other monitors you should look at reviews online and see what the delta e scores are (ideally less than 2) or if the reviewers aren't checking with a calibrator look at the spec sheet - you want at least 100% srgb and 99% argb for photography

You should also get a calibrator, such as the i1 display pro. The benefit of the benq over the dell is direct hardware calibration.

I have one of these LG IPS monitors.

32'' Full HD IPS Monitor | 32MP58HQ | LG Australia

Calibrates well and the big screen gives a big work space.

    Hi Keith,

Some things you don't tell us:
What is the output destined for, web, print, personal display?
Do you have a light controlled space to work in with good colour temps?
If your serious do you have monitor calibration gear?

When i got my laptop with a 4k IPS screen i gave my 2 24" IPS dispalys to my son. and bought a 55" 4K TV that I could actually calibrate the same as most monitors, took a little hunting.

I calibrated it and apart from not fully covering the full Adobe colour space it has served me very well for the last 4 years, just calibrate it regularly (maybe not as often as i should)
The room i work in (the office) is constantly illuminated by the same overhead lights regardless of the time of day so that I have a constant reference..... this was drilled in by pro's years ago

a 50" 4k display has nearly identical pixel pitch to a 24" at 1920 so resolution wise you give nothing up per se.

    Cheers

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful.
The output is mainly for Print and some Digital.
The lighting in my room is by downlights set to daylight. (Can also be set to cool white or warm white).
I realize that calibration gear will be the next thing that I need.

    Regards
    Keith

Also, if you are going to the trouble of calibrating your work flow that you use a printing lab that also calibrates their process. A good lab will calibrate each of their papers to their printer. They should be able to provide soft proofing profiles for you to use so you can adjust the photo specifically for that paper/printer.

I bought an EIZO with calibration kit several years ago. No regrets, though I bought it here in Japan...about 3X the price in Oz...

If I was getting another one, I'd get another EIZO, but 4k capable this time.
