Did anybody see any of the meteor shower over the weekend?

We were clouded out for most of it but the sky cleared for a while on Friday 10/8/7 so we went out for a look around midnight .

We saw several very small very fast ones, all seem to be coming from the north east.
I was too cold to stay out more than about 15 minutes & they were not spectacular but we did see at least 6 or 7 in that time.

Two moons on August 27, 2007

*27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for.............*

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will
culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be
sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am . It will look like the earth
has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
Didn't this set off any warning bells? The moon is bloody huge - if Mars (which is not that much bigger than the Moon) looked about the same size, then the damned thing is about to hit us, or at the very least we are in for an absolute humungus spring tide!!

I took this from my front porch on 27th May. It was mid afternoon at the time. Not very exciting but considering the camera was hand held at 30 zoom (10 optical x 3 digital), for a spur of the moment shot it wasn't too bad.

    [bump]

Not looking good here, as it's overcast. Not thick enough to block the moon, but enough to make in not worth the effort of breaking out the telescope or camera. [sigh]

Hope things clear up really, really soon...

I've been out on the deck watching it through binoculars... clear as here, and cool. The blood moon looks like an egg without the shell, sort of yolky with a red cast. Can't budge the kids off the TV though...

Just been up on the roof, SWIMBO saying "get down you might fall after 2 bottles of home brew". Reply, "bullsh**t", retort " you got to finish the renovation first".

Absolute magic. Unusual, never seen anything like it. Back up there again! Stuff the TV.

Just went out to a geterhing that the local astronomy club held. They had a heap of telescopes out for public use and also guys taking all about the stars etc.

Saw the eclipse with the kids and had a great time! Unfortunately my camera can't won't take any good photos
Have a nice day - Cheers

Not to bad for a standard digi-cam

After my bump, the clouds just got heavier and heavier... until nothing was visible in that half of the sky. To rub salt in, the other horizon has been crystal clear all night!

Nice pics, Ianab! I guess I'll have to watch this one thru yours (and others) eyes...

'twas overcast & raining here but the clouds parted for the last couple of minutes of totality & we got to see it for about 10 minutes in all.
That was enough for us, it is cold outside here.

    Great pics Ian
We were raining (and has been off and on since Saturday night) here so no view for us.
    The kids think they're great
