Ah, thanks for that. I remember the giant bumble bees that live down there, fortunately they seem to mind their own business, and don't cause any real problems.
Tasmania is a lovely place, and Trevor has picked a darn nice bit of it to build Broughs and photograph the wildlife for us.

Not a lot going on around the place at the minute it's all pretty quiet.
But it's still nice to take the time for a walk.

Sometimes you just get lucky with a shot.
Walking around the place yesterday I spotted a Christmas Beatle.
I took a frame but the sound of the shutter slap sent it flying.
By chance I hit the button again.

Bugger Me I'll take that and pretty sharp to!.
We'll call that a Christmas fluke.

    Love the bugs

Bring your camera next time and we will investigate our compost heap

We will need to watch out for the enormous slugs we have though

I've only got a few photos over the last days.
Been pretty busy with the Brough.
More to the point I haven't wonted to pickup the camera with my hands covered in fiberglass!.

The last little flurry critter I'm pretty sure is the offspring of the Cranefly.
If you have a look at the photo from the other day I'm fairly sure that's one of them on its hind leg.

Not a Cranefly lava Trev. Craneflies hatch from a nymph that looks a bit like a meal worm. That hairy little beast will probably hatch into one of these

You seem to be really good at this stuff mate!.
I've seen lots of Cranefly's with those woolly little buggers attached to them in one way or another.
Any idea of what's going on?.

I'm no expert but if I had to guess:
Anything that is hairy like that generally tastes terrible and the hairs are an irritant. Pick one up and you'll see what I mean.
It would be difficult for those little fellas to get about, to greener pastures, so to speak.
The cranefly will let them hitch a ride as it makes the cranefly less palatable if is wearing stinging leg warmers. The caterpillar will probably jump off when he gets to a tasty looking bush/tree and the cranefly was going there anyway.

While waiting for a layer of fiberglass to harden on the tank of the Brough this morning I took a walk with the camera.
I ran into Clyde with one of his youngsters and got some pretty nice family photos.

You can tell from the Kookaburra shot it's a nice day down here.
Good for laying fiberglass so I'd better get back to it!.

I caught some of the youngsters out and about the place.

I'm spending to much time shaping that petrol for the Brough at the moment.
When this stuff is just outside the shed door!.
