Great shots. Looks so peaceful and quiet. I can imagine just sitting there in a chair.
Early in this thread, you mentioned that the beasts get agitated when you bring out the camera, the BIG BLACK EYE. Or is it the simple act of raising your arms?

All winter, we have groups of 2-4 mule deer does that cruise the village, mowing down any unprotected shrubbery.
If I put my arms behind my back, I'm the same general outline as the front end of a deer . . . . they pay little attention. However, if I raise my arms and take a step or two towards them, that's a fighting gesture and they walk away.

Not sure what it is that triggers them to take off, maybe just the unexpected movement.
They seem to give you a wary look, but just sit there until you raise the camera up to take a photo of them.

A few years back we had a few tame ones that would take food out of your hand. But they tended to become a bit of a nuisance, because they would sit on the verandah waiting for handouts all day ( and leaving their mess for us to clean up ) and they are not content to just sit on the floor, they have to get up on the chairs and tables and benchtops, or the BBQ.
Now we dont feed them at all, they just eat their natural food, which is better for them, and us. They do seem to love eating the soft Couch Grass around the house, but thats no problem.
It is a real pleasure to sit out on the veranah and watch them grazing on the lawn in the afternoon, while we are drinking a couple of beers.

Lovely neighbours you have there Brad.
The last batch of photos on your new camera look much sharper / clearer than the previous pics.
Are you using the same lense?, and what brand / model was the old camera?

Have fun with the new camera,

    Alan...

Thanks Al. The old camera was a Nikon D3100, the new one is quite a jump up, I am still learning to drive it properly.

The lens I have been using for these pics is still the same, its a Nikkor 70-300VR.

I have the same lense, amongst others, and a Nikon D90, which has had a lot of use. Thinking about upgrading, the D90 is coming up for its 5th birthday. Might have to do a bit of homework on the comparison sites, but need to be a bit careful with the folding stuff these days.

    Happy snapping,
    Alan...

The D90 is a good workhorse, I almost sold my D3100 to buy one at one stage. I held off with intentions of upgrading to a D600 once Nikon sorted out the dust on the sensor issue.
They bought out the D7100 in the meantime, and as it was getting great reviews, and seemed not to be plaqued with the issues of some of the other recent cameras, I decided to go with it.

I am very happy with it so far, having plenty of fun with it.

I know what you mean about the folding stuff, this photography hobby can go through it like its going out of fashion.
