Sawtells Inlet
Spent over an hour last Saturday evening being eaten alive by mozzies and sandflies to get some photos at Sawtells Inlet. I've been waiting for low tide and sunset to coincide for a while now to get these shots. The tide was still going out in the first picture, hence the ripples in the water. I would have liked to hang around for another half an hour to get the full moon coming up but the mozzies were getting unbearable and I didn't have much blood left for them anyway .

Hi John,
Great shots. I admire your determination, but is probably right, a bit woosey, you can always get a blood transfusion at the emergency ward.
Only kidding, I would have been running away long before that.
Cheers

John worth the effort I have to agree though night light shots would have topped the trio.

Nice photographs Grumpy. It brings back great memories. I can remember my Dad taking us kids to Tooradin for a fishing weeked in probably 1948 or 1949 so I was about 7 or 8 years old. We stayed in some wooden huts that had no electricity and we had kerosene lamps and went fishing at night using green cord handlines. I can still remember the bloody mozzies.
And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

It's amazing that a few photos can bring back memories from the distant past, glad you enjoyed them. Do you remember going to the fish and chip shop at Tooradin (est. 1943), it's still there and serving the best fish and chips I've had for quite a while .

Those first two landscapes are really. really good. The third looks a bit like something has been overexposed...

Hi Grumpy,
I dont remember the fish and chip shop but I do remember sleeping in the bunks in the huts and the kero lamps. The mattresses were striped kapok and we had army issue blankets. We were driven down there by some neighbours who had an old Clyno motor car and I recall how they said we were going to catch some good fish. The only bites I got were from the mozzies so I guess nothing has changed.
Great memories.........and the kapok was damp and musty! And my head I'd be a scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.

Avery, thanks for the kind words on the landscapes. The third shot was taken with a point and shoot using the flash, didn't want to waste the 7D on such a poor specimen .
Ruddy, as you drive in to Tooradin from the Melbourne side there is a big schnapper on the rhs of the road, I guess it's to acknowledge the great fishing in the area. I reckon they should erect a bloody great mozzie to warn people .To grow old is inevitable.... To grow up is optional

When I said "overexposed" I wasn't really speaking photographically...
Was that second image really a 30 second exposure - it is quite remarkable.

Sawtell's Inlet revisited
Another low tide and sunset oppurtunity at Sawtell's Inlet this evening. This time I covered up and applied copious amounts of tropical strength Aerogard, those little buggers didn't come near me tonight . Also managed to get an almost full moon rising over the boat shed.
