I don't think the first one is Peter.
The Magpie Goose is one of a few I'd seen around the reserve in Scamander.
As far as I know their not local to Tassie, so I'd be guessing that they move around the area from someone's property.

The second's a Tasmanian Native-hen, evil looking things and you find them all over the place.
I think the rest are versions of the Pacific Black Duck.
You see them a lot around the old Bridges like Richmond and Ross.

Couldn't get online for the early morning rollcall, sorry about that mate.
I'll have a stern word to the kitten (Fred) about his behaviour around keyboards!.

Hopefully this mornings post is early enough for you Cowboy.
I haven't seen Blue Boy for a couple of days, so here a shot from a little while ago.

    IMG_6332.jpg

The day was very overcast yesterday and not much around the place to get any snaps of.
So I went down to the bay to see if there was something to photograph.
I found a White-faced Heron looking for shrimps along the waters edge.

    IMG_6777.jpg IMG_6778.jpg IMG_6780.jpg

    IMG_6793.jpg IMG_6797.jpg IMG_6799.jpg

As you can see their pretty good at finding a snack!

    IMG_6804.jpg IMG_6758.JPG IMG_6789.jpg

One thing that was really interesting was the way they use their leg to stir up the water to see if anything moves.
You can see the bird doing that in the second photo above.

It was a nice way to spend some time, watching the Heron fish or should that be shrimp?.

    Cheers

The day wasn't that bad here yesterday but even after a good hour of walking around the place there was little in the way of "Kodak Moments".
But I guess in the depths of winter that's to be expected!.
So here's a few shots from a brighter day!.

This popped up in my YouTube suggestions today. I have only watched a bit of it but anyone who wants to photograph birds might find it helpful but be warned it is over an hour...

It looks very interesting thanks Chris.
    I'll give it a watch!.

Still very quiet around the place.
I think we've hit the mid winter lull!.
But it's always nice just to take the time for a walk around the place to see what's about.
Even when the answers "diddly squat".

Not much fun going to the back catalogue all the time.
So I'll post just on Sunday's and Wednesday's for awhile and see if I can find some shots in between.

    Cheers

Walking around Cochrane Lagoon today. Didn't realise female king parrots were patterned underneath

Great shots Peter it looks like the walk was well worth it!.
What's the black and white bird?.
It looks quite similar to the grey fan-tail we have down here.

It is surprising what you start to notice looking at the world through a lens isn't it!.
The red and green pattern on the parrot is really striking.

I know Dave will be more than pleased to see a shot of the Blue Wren.
Thanks for adding some colour to the day.
    Great stuff mate!.

    Cheers

    Thanks for that Peter,
That's interesting it's a totally different bird that gets called a Willie Wagtail up in Sunraysia and Mallee area of Victoria.

    Cheers
