    Default Setting up my 7D

I've just got my 7D back from being repaired and while I was happy with the short turnaround time I was a little annoyed that the settings had been reset back to the factory defaults . I'm not sure that this is a formality so that the functions of the camera can be checked out before being returned. or whether the camera automatically resets after being "opened up". Either way I hadn't kept a note of the many changes I'd made in the two weeks I'd had the camera before I'd managed to bend a pin in the CF card slot and had to take it to Canon for repair. If anyone has seen the incredible amount of settings you can change of one of these cameras you'd realise that not recording your setup is akin to not backing up your hard drive on a regular basis (everyone backs up don't they???) I spent most of today setting that 7d up as best as I can remember and that entered all the setup data into a spreadsheet which I've attached. If anyone wants/needs to use it for their own camera feel free, I'm sure it could be modified to suit any DSLR.

John, you will probably find that as part of the Canon service, they would do a firmware update. This probably reset all the settings to default so the software can update itself properly. It's still a pain but at least now you have the settings you like recorded. Have you made any changes to the colour and saturation settings for your program modes? They are very intricate and something you will definately want to record somewhere.

    Cheers

John, I was wondering whether you have played with the AF Microadjustment custom function? Wish my 350D had the function. My setup exhibits back focus problems, I suspect it's the camera as it does it with nearly every lens. The 7D allows to individually microadjust 20 lenses. I'd be interested to hear if you use it and what results you get.

Hi Bob,I haven't played around with the AF microadjustment as yet. Not sure that I need to.

    This warning from:
DAVID BUSCH’S COMPACT FIELD GUIDE FOR THE CANON EOS 7D

C.Fn III-05: Fine-tuning Your Autofocus Lenses AF micro adjustment.
Caution! Use this control, which allows you to tweak the point of focus of individual lenses, with care. Well-intentioned, but inaccurate adjustments can turn slight focus problems into major ones.
Options: 0: Disable, 1: Adjust all by the same amount, 2: Adjust by lens

Hi John, I saw that warning, but I would think it would be less of an issue if you use it on a lens by lens basis (if needed) and you can always turn it off
I'm going to spend some time with a focus chart and see what results I get. Thanks for the reply mate.
