Maybe not better, but at least as good. The young lady singing is India Arie, what a beautiful voice.

You know - its really funny how some extraordinarily famous songs are always better when covered (everything ever by Bob Dylan) ... And others are never better when covered... (Stuff like Rolling stones, Jimi Hendrix and Aerosmith)
it seems to me that the line drawn in the sand is whether someone was a Creator or an Improver... Most performers are improvers by nature.. Over time - their sense of timing and responding to crowd reaction hones their performances... Performer/improvers initial efforts are pretty mediocre - but they redo and redo and redo over and over and iterate and hone their way to perfection... And THEN nail it down.. (Hendrix and The Rolling Stones are great examples). On the other hand - many pure song writers are creators.. And over time they get better at creating great things..... They birth a creation and their "early" best version is as good as they are going to get it.. The more they mess with it - the more they ruin it.... (Kristofferson and Dylan are great examples).
Thats how I draw the line.... And its really fun to see a guy like Santana or Johnny Cash fix somebody else's song and take it from pretty good to amazing...

I wont say better but both definitely equal to the originals in their own right are......
Zoot....Eleanor Rigby and Doug Parkinson's Dear Prudence.
For something that is not by an Australian artist a cover of a song frequently sung by spectators at UK soccer matches, Jerusalem by Wildfire.......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oldnEW84I0My "go to" book for rainy days...........Holmes Principles Of Physical Geology.

Steve'n'Seagulls, Thunderstruck. I don't know how to put the video up here and I'm not sure it's better than ACDC but the guy on the Banjo is exceptional and I like it a lot. Completely natural to the camera.

Lou Reed said that the Cowboy Junkies version of Sweet Jane was the best.
I agree with him

And just because i like it and the video.
Nick Cave and the Bad seeds dong In the Ghetto.
https://youtu.be/EmWUqzpan7A
And another one Johnny Cash and Nick Cave singing the immortal Hank Williams, I'm so Lonely I Could Cry.
One of the all time greatest songs. Its a video without them in it but the sound is good
https://youtu.be/ChSC79J1pCo
And Johnny Cash singing Nick Caves "The Mercy Seat"
https://youtu.be/n8CzFVm1Yio
I could go on, and might later.
Cheers

Ultimately no.
The later version has a better backing band. Pretty slick playing all round.
And even though Guy Mitchell's delivery of the song is veeeerrry smooth in that Nashville style, it's better
than Cyndi Laupers.
Just my opinion.

Ok ,I've been following a long on this one for a bit.
If you were in to grunge like I was and still am.
I liked and still like a little grunge band from Sydney in the 90s.
Called the Hard Ons.
There AC/DC cover "Let there be rock"
I think is pretty awesome.
Now a little point ,Sally my dearest wife ,would happily call her self AC/DC biggest fan.
But, can't stand the hard ons or there AC/DC cover.
O well ,let there be rock...
Cheers Matt
