Streaming Music over LAN
I have all my music on an NAS as .WAV files and want to find a way to stream them to my sound system. I have found this NP30 Network Streaming Audio Player which looks like it would do the job but has anyone got a better alternative that does not involve using a computer? It obviously must be able to read and sort through the files so needs some sort of screen to do this. I am in the process of converting all my CD's into digital files as I think CD's have had their day. My car even has a harddrive in it and the CD player has never been used.

I've been wondering about how to do the same thing. I can't really see the value of the NP30 functionality since it would seem to need a computer app running somewhere to select and start the playlists anyway. Maybe I'm missing something about it's functionality. Of more interest to me are the DAC devices such as DacMagic100 DA Converter .
The way I understand it, you can run the DAC off something like a netbook or tablet with a full media player interface and use the DAC to connect through to the amplifier. The DAC plugs into the netbook which sees it as a USB speaker, the DAC does the magic to convert the digital output to quality analogue. It seems that even if you use the network streamer, you would still need a DAC to get the optimal audio to the amp.

I spoke to Synergy Audio taday and they sent me the operating manual for the NP30. True it will manage all files on the NAS it uses a hunt and peck system of input instead of a keyboard and that would drive me nuts, been there and done that with other devices. What it can do is this

very slick and smooth and me liking toys this really appeals. I guess if I bought a really cheap tablet dedicated it to the job then all well and good but it gets away from my concept of having one device to do it all. I will continue the hunt and see what is out there.CHRIS

If you want one box for everything, have you looked at the current generation amplifiers that are network enabled?
e.g. Marantz NR1603

That would be wasted on me. I don't watch TV, less than an hour a week and movies don't interest me I would rather read a good book and listen to music. I literally can't remember the last time I watched a movie.
