Hippie Schmippie.... if you ever get the chance to see the movie "Ghengis Blues".... well here's a clip, Paul Pena, blind seppoe blues player, and Kongar-ol Ondar, Mongolian throat singer.

About a minute in is where the Khoomei kicks in (throat singing) that's the bit that sounds like someone has kicked off on the tin whistle and kazoo at the same time. If you've never heard it for real, it's a must do before you die!

(Ok this may not be the best introduction!)

For a dash of throat singing, here's Ondar on Letterman:

Not good clips so turn up the volume and close your eyes.

BTW How many spaghetti western films can you pick out in the samples in Medician Man?

Speaking of throat singing, I heard some the other day on We Were Soldiers. I had assumed it was some kind of electronic gadget but now I know better!

Enough of the throat singers and the not so slim but very dusty Dusty.

    P.I.L. has brought back memories.

Absolutely loved the Sex Pistols - http://youtube.com/watch?v=uOQ4f7YItX8

And their Drummers old band - http://youtube.com/watch?v=aHs9NBxH7F8

And even the Manager - http://youtube.com/watch?v=GLYzS3eDEY0

And the managers best band - http://youtube.com/watch?v=hBY35TFJxSc

    Its all related.

Siouxsie and the Banshees doing the Iggy Pop, Passenger song.

The New York Dolls doing Jet Boy.

And here in Aus we have our own band Jet who has done this to Iggy Pops Passengers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56l4y...elated&search=

Now forget the Jet rubish, here is Iggy at hia finest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPMn6...elated&search=

And sometimes even simple compositions can be very, very effective...

Don't you mean "Iggy Pop's Lust For Life"?

Actually I thought they were both rip offs of Katrina and The Waves

EDIT: Yeah, OK, Lust for Life predates Walking on Sunshine by 6 years.

Its funny I don't think America really got punk. They just used the label to describe bands that didn't fit the usual rock mold.
    Devo
    Iggy
    The Remones
New York Dolls ...not really punk, no real passionate anarchy. The closest they got I think was this band : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uu4SRvJbD0

Edit not that I didn't enjoy those bands, I just preffered our own home grown crowd or that of the poms.

Some guy came up an inventive way of proposing to his g/f and posted a vid that's going viral @ the moment. The backing track is Saeglopur from Sigur Ros band.

Nice piece of music, and I'm sure this guys vid will give them a boost.

Throat singing is actually not that hard to learn. It irritates when you begin but a few weeks and its relatively easy.
