2nd instalment
Took a drive the other day to the site of a new port being constructed near where we are living. Its only about 15 Kms down the coast via the beach but over 50 Kms . by road. The place is called Acu and would be the windiest and one of the most desolate places I have see. The work is incredible with massive pier being built out into the briney, as the water is very shallow apparently this this is being advanced at the rate of 30metres a week!! Alll roads and power lines are new.
The venture is a joint Brazilian/ Chinese show and despite the cheap labour, the cost must be massive.
Right next to the pier is a huge oil pipeline delivering oil from the offshore rigs.
a new field has also been discovered in th region so this are will be booming.
There is talk of a minor outpost about 22kms away becoming a city of 250,000 people!
