Neil, bugger about the shoulder.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! My ears are still ringing from hearing words "Now, Tim you know you're not supposed to lift that. Leave it for someone else." That does sound bad and from what I know about these injuries they're very hard to heal. Shove it in a sling and padlock it to you opposite nipple. That's my advice. even though you weren't asking for it. I'll be prayin' for ya.
Tim
Hi Neil, bit of a bugga bout the shoulder:((, take it easy and look after yourself. Hope it gets better soon.

Well the cortisone injection, hot wheat packs, exercises and pain killers seem to be working. But unfortunately fishing, diving and milling seem out of the question at the moment . So as there is someone that needs some help in Melbourne, plus I have family there to support me if an operation is needed, I have decided to head back east again :C. I'm a bit worried about the colder weather on the shoulder but I will just have to take appropriate measures to keep it warm.
Sorry to all those forumites who were expecting me to call in on my way north from here in WA, and the NT, but it just isn't going to happen this trip. I will be taking the direct route back, not the coast, so will see some different sites and hopefully catch up with some more forumites I missed on the way here.
Not sure if I am going to make it to north Qld I'll just have to see how it goes. Perhaps I'll get to do an anticlockwise trip in the future
Good that some relief has occurred :) bad the plans are on hold :( everything happens for a reason so just go with the flow for the time being ,some rest time will be welcome I am sure at this time :) , cheers ~ John
Neil, That's disappointing news that you won't be able to finish the BIG trip but I think you are very wise to resort to "Plan B". You need to look after your body so you can enjoy your grand kids. When you are crook and away from home/familiar surroundings I think it makes you feel worse. Take it easy driving and try not to push yourself. I hope your convalescents is short.
Well I am well on the way back to Melb. Currently at Norseman after passing many many beautiful burls (Goldfields?) and large Acacias. With the crook shoulder no point stopping, I can't use the silent saw or the chainsaw, let alone lift them into the trailer :C. Everything was very quiet today as all the shops and touristy thing shut for Anzac Day.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, back, knees, gout and other diseases you are suffering from, no wonder WA Authorities are removing you from the state via the quickest route :D:D
Anyhoo, this should cheer you up https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...75#post1769375

Well it has been driving driving and more driving stopping at road side stops. I have run out of water so pulled up at a caravan park at Port Augusta. No touristy stops at all, just drooling at all the burls I don't have time to collect :C, seem to be more this way than via the coast route I took to Perth.
Well I stopped at Augusta for the past couple of nights to rest mainly my knees, but blow me last night my shoulder's scapula seemed to get rotated, making it stick out at the front, then it jammed on something stopping it from going back :C. Could not move the arm or shoulder AT ALL and yes it hurt like hell :cry4:. After a heap of the strongest pain killers I had and a long long hot shower I have seemed to get it back into place, I heard it pop, but still pretty painful. Think Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, but slowly :-
Then headed for doc in Adelaide, who then sent me to another doc who injected the joint under ultrasound guidance with cortisone. That ultrasound shows lumps not so bad, but tendons pretty inflamed still with shredding. The doc was a visiting specialist to train ultrasound staff and advised he would not recommend an operation, but I needed to protect it completely for at least a couple of weeks and hopefully it should come good. Definitely no lifting or pushing anything , no turning :C, no chainsaws , no helping others do the same :(, use the arm but stop if it even starts to hurt (ie do not push through as I have been doing :-).
So looks like I have t stay clear of demos, collecting burls and timbers (although I am allowed to look - see https://www.woodworkforums.com/f14/hows-peppercorn-burl-184317) and really take a true break/holiday  :sleep6:
Currently camped ~50kms east of Tailem Bend, with luck if shoulder holds up, I'll be back in Melb in a few days
not sounding good there, hope recovery is as painless as possible
