Well I did a lot of walking today at Victor harbour, too much for the knees, but you get that. Walked from cavan park to Granite Island scene in the distance 1km away, yeh perhaps a bit optimistic, but I had all day

Then caught horse drawn tram across the causeway to the island. Had a great cup of coffee overlooking the island pier, then explored a bit of the granite outcrops (no I didn't walk to top lookout) before catching tram back.

Then tried to find Whale Museum but the knees gave out before I found it, so slowly walked back to park, it can wait till I have the car.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Well I am staying at the caravan park here at until Sat now, so did a day trip to Cape Jervis and got there just as the ferry was loading up. To expensive for me, plus I think the island just has more of what the local surrounds offer.

Next I headed up the western side of peninsula stopping at Second Valley. Beautiful spot with a beach and pier out of the wind with crystal clear water. Heaps snorkelling and others fishing catching squid, shame all my gear was still in the trailer back at the caravan park. I can't believe I didn't take any pics
Next via a few back roads I went to Hindmarsh Falls. Pretty dry with the lack of rain but still a pretty spot. Had to hike down to the lookout, many steep steps , but could only catch glimpses of the falls on the way down.

On the path however was a pine tree (?) of some sort covered in what looked like galls. Most were just knobs of barky stuff, but some did show signs of something solid inside, so didn't want to come off the branches . I didn't have a saw of any type with me, so only a few that were attached to already fallen/broken branches, jumped in the car . Interesting branches though, the heartwood had a deep red colour, so hopefully galls will be as good.

There are heaps of wineries around, but being a non-drinker, they are a bit of a waste on me.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Have a look at Rapid Bay while you are there.
Don't know where you are planning to stay in Adelaide, but Brownhill Creek has a nice caravan park close(ish) to the city.
Halfway between Adelaide and the Barossa there is a small caravan park at the Williamstown Oval.

I thought about Rapid Bay, but the signs weren't the best and I didn't see the turn-off until too late, so missed it
Thanks for the info Fred, I will look at them, plus this one I was looking at http://www.brightoncaravanpark.com.au/caravan-park/ (to get any sea breeze benefits)Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

You're right to Question it being a pine. What it is, is a wild (or native) cherry. Absolutely gorgeous cherry coulored wood http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exocarpos_cupressiformis
Good to see you're still enjoying yourself.

Well I left Mt Compass and here is a pic with a view as I came down the hill.
View from Mt Comnpass.jpg
There was an even better view coming in to Adelaide but no spots to take photos and I was a bit busy driving to do it out the window. Now in Adelaide camped outside SeaSideVicki's house at Largs Bay . Spent yesterday at her woodworking club at Salisbury and gave a demo in evening of turning pendants to them and a few of the nearby woodturning club members that also attended (in packed room with >20). Heaps of photos taken, even a video, but all by others so I will have to wait for someone to post.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

As Neil mentioned, Thursday night he gave a great demo at my club – the Woodworkers Shed – on how to turn pendants.
Everyone was impressed with his skills, tools and stories.
Today, Lee took Neil around some of the sights of Port Adelaide and Semaphore.
Here are some photos from the demo.
Cheers
