Thanks heaps DJ that would be great, but Ivanhoe isn't exactly on the way to your place. No need for the trailer, but I could at least take some more things in the troopy.

Not really that far out, straight run down Eastlink then back to Ringwood and up Maroondah Hwy, maybe an extra 1/2hr to get home if that.

Ok leaving Melbourne today, off to Albury or a bit further north, then Wagga Wagga tomorrow for Turnabout.

I need a holiday from this holiday, fitting the new Lazy Axle ended up being a lot of work for me too (in the blo_dy heat too ), see here https://www.woodworkforums.com/f119/a...ml#post1622457

    Bon Voyage Neil
I would imagine having to do semi major surgery in an unfamiliar town would have tested the best of us. I am sure you have done the right thing with the extra axle. You now have piece of mind that, with the weight of your home-away-from-home, you can have a much more easy time to travel and enjoy it.
Please be sure to give us a run down of how it travels now compared to what it was.
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Got to Wagga Wagga today and it travelled well. The only issue is that it took an extra 2 litres per 100km more than the average travelling down from Qld. Yeh I know it was down hill . Seriously though, I did feel this section of the Hume did seem up hill most of the way, that would explain it. I can't believe the extra axle would make that much difference. The camper is sitting around 50mm higher now due to the increased support, so that might play a minor role also.

I did take a photo of the submarine at Holbrook when I stopped for a brake. The camera is in the car and I'm too tired to get it, I'll post it later when I get time.

You have increased your unsprung weight (??kg) and with the additional drag of another 2 tyres it would alter you fuel usage.

What were getting per 100km before?

I realise the rate would go up, just didn't think it would be by this amount. Previously I averaged 12.9 l/100km from Bris to Melb.

Last time (1990) I played with a lazy axel it increase the fuel consumption by 15%. We the rebuilt it as a full 6wd and impoved it by 20%.
What tyre pressures are you running and have you tried over inflating the back 2, this may help a little.

The ute is looking good Neil. The trailer, on the other hand, doesn't look like it's getting any relief from when we last saw it. Poor old tyres
    Where to next?

Tis another option, but no doubt beyond my financial budget, the lazy axle cleaned me out. I think the load I am now putting on the ball may also have something to do with fuel, I wasn't too careful packing assuming no problems with loads, although that may be another story shortly

The trailer was just upgraded to 1.5t capacity, and brand new truck tyres, almost added some more timber from Wagga Wagga Turnabout today .

I am currently at Goulburn debating where to next. I will be calling in on Dorno Ian tomorrow or the next day or so north of Brisbane, that reminds me, better send him a PM . Then back to Taree/Foster/Tuncurry area for a week or two.

Neil, be wary of calling in on Ray, it's a trap.

You'll have a good chat with Ray and Sue . . . then the homemade cakes and biscuits will wander out and you get back into your vehicle about 2 st heavier

Yeah strangely enough he has fallen into that same trap about 6 times You reckon he'd learn after the 2nd or 3rd time.
