Dash Camera - Front & Rear
Hi All,
I'm looking for advice on what to buy & install in a VW Transporter Van.
Has anyone installed one of these recently.
Would appreciate any recommendations
Regards
Alan

I put a Navman in my son’s car because I wanted front & rear cameras (P plate driver). It does not great reviews but he has not had any issues and quality is plenty good enough. JB HiFi have them on sale from time to time for just under $200. Plus you need to buy a memory card. Cannot see the point of spending $500 or more for super high definition cameras.

That depends on what you want it for. If it's just a reversing camera, it's probably not worth it.
If it is to record evidence in the event of something happening on the road, then you want the extra resolution. It's not enough to just get a "red car that's probably a sedan" in your video, you want to be able to make out the plate number and ideally the driver's face as well.
Additionally I'd expect that the more expensive camera would have better low-light performance.

I've been run into from the rear, 4 times in my long and extensive driving career. Each time, it did serious damage to my vehicle.
Each time, the offending driver was unlicenced, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
One bloke cheerfully gave me his home address, that later turned out to be a vacant lot! (how well organised would that stunt be?)
The last bloke drove into the back of my (correctly) parked (at the kerb) vehicle, in broad daylight at midday, at 60kmh, doing $5000 worth of damage to it.
To make it more interesting - there was a copper walking down the footpath, right alongside us, when it happened!
Better still, this unregistered driver even had the temerity to give his name to the copper, as a bloke who was in jail that day!!
If I had had the benefit of a decent dash cam, with high resolution, in every one of these rear-ramming events, I would have paid for it a dozen times over.
I'm saving up for a Blackvue 750S 2 channel, I reckon I'll probably pay for it from the income from setting up a YooToob account, displaying all the appalling driving I've recorded, and which appalling driving, I have to put up with on a daily basis.
I've learnt from traffic crashes that it's better to have indisputable evidence to ensure you suffer minimum financial loss.
I won't even start on the number of idiots who can't even park alongside your vehicle without running into it and damaging it.
I actually came back to my parked car once, and found some nice witnesses who had left a very comprehensive note on the windscreen, describing the driver who had caused the damage to my car, the offending vehicle rego, and all their personal contact details. These kind of people are very rare.

If you read the comments on this video, which seems to have excellent quality footage they recommend a Viofo a1195 from ebay. Apparently jbhifi ones are it that great. Again from YouTube comments so take that as you will.

Hi Everyone,
Thankyou all for your input.
There is an amazing number of units available which makes it very confusing.
I've read up about a number of them on various Forums & am inclined to go for a unit with Excellent Optics, Good Back-up, Capacitor inside to name a few items. " $$$"
Blackview 750s 2 channel, Street Guardian 9553, DOD get favourable reviews, & are a few that I'm interested in. I've downloaded the manuals for these & if you read carefully through them you can get a better understanding of them & if they might be suitable for you.
The search goes on as there is so much to learn about as well as being AWARE of.
You need to arm yourself with as MUCH information as possible, because the salesman will most likely NOT know much about them
Regards
Alan
