Thread: 800 King = ?? W&D

I tried the w&d and it took way too long. Now I use my belt sander on slow setting and work through 40, 80, 120 and 150 grits before moving to waterstones. Just make sure you don't press the blad too hard against the belt and that you remove the blade from the belt when your finger start to get hot.

From what I can find, hope the information below helps

800 Waterstone = Natural Soft Arkansas
800 Waterstone = 16 micron
800 Waterstone = US 600 grade
800 Waterstone = P1000 - P1200 Wet & Dry

Well I basically used 120 W&D on granite till I got scratches across the entire surface. That was 2 sheets and 40 mins work.

Then I used the 800 waterstone using David Charlesworth's two stroke method and ruler trick. It didn't seem to have made much difference. I must have spend 2-3 hours going between the first stroke and reflattening the stone. Having run out of 180 W&D made it a lot slower as I only had one sheet of 240 and 320 W&D.

Furthermore, that is only the first of two blades which looked like they hadn't been properly flattened and sharpened in over half a decade!

I might try the belt sander trick on the next one.
