    Default Bench Grinder Wheel Dilemma

    Hi there,

I have been doing a bit of reading on this forum for a while but this is my first post. I am just getting started in wood working and have purchased my first bench grinder for the purposes of sharpening. I am trying to get a white alox wheel to replace one of the stock wheels, but I've only been able to find one local supplier.

After reading previous posts here I was keen to get as corse a grit as possible (I will only be grinding the bevel and then honing my hand). The problem I've having is that the only 46 grit wheel I can find has a hardness of 'M' (38A46MVBE). The next most coarse wheel (60 grit) has a hardness of 'J' (38A60JVBE). They are Norton wheels. I'm not sure what is going to be the best way to go here, the coarser but harder wheel (the 46) or the finer but softer wheel (the 60)?

I live on the central coast of NSW if both of these options are unsuitable, and someone wanted to point me to a supplier that may have more variety. Any advice would be fantastic and I appreciate anyone taking the time to read this.

    take a look in here.....http://www.mcjing.com.au/.........and here.....http://www.woodworksupplies.com.au/..........and here..........https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/..........and here.......http://www.timbecon.com.au/.........these do a mail out,

but if it was me I would go the harder if you are going to hone by hand! the softer may "distort" and leave uneven work area's on the stone! I say "might" as I'm not sure, all my sharpening is done free hand on various blades and stones
    G'day I'm Dave!

Thanks for the advice Dave50. I think I'll go the coarser/harder wheel. Cheers.
