Book on Sharpening
Just got my Woodcraft email newsletter and one of the items they are promoting is a book called 'The Complete Guide to Sharpening' by Leonard Lee. They have a page where you can read one of the opening chapters which I found very interesting and revealing. So, check it out:

Preview some more pages:

Couple of pics from the first link:
Wilkinson Sword razor blade
Chisel sharpened on a 6000x water stone then honed with chromium-oxide honing compound.
Both photos taken at 2 micron scale (1 micron equals one millionth of a meter).
btw, you can subscribe to the email on their main page. (click on ENewsletter on the left)

Thanks for the reference Wayne. I recall seeing some similar SEM pics in an article on sharpening in a recent copy of Fine Woodworking.

I bought it a couple of years ago, and would recommend it to anyone!
About the only omission is instruction on sharpening scissors, and I'd love to hear from anyone with a clue on that.
Cheers,

G'day.
Good, expensive, VERY SLOW!!!
I took some of the fittings off it for the gouges & adapted them to my
regular dry white wheel grinder.
I still use the Tormek for other things/tools but it's not fast enough for
shaping/sharpening my turning tools.Cliff.

Thanks for the kind comments -

I ordered this book and a few others back in June this year from Taunton press and I'm still waiting even though they were ex stock.
Is this sort of delay from Taunton normal - if so I might not consider them for future buys______________

Hi folks,
Just picked up the book from Borders in the mall, $49.95 only read a few bits so far, and am impressed with the detail and explanations.
I just hope that I don't become one of those that sits around sharpening things all the time, oh well back to the grindstone. There's no such thing as too many Routers
