Cast iron plates
I would like to get some cast iron plates to use with diamond paste.
I can see veritas makes them but $48 each :O
where else can I source it?

Remember that with the addition of a simple holder to keep the backside of the plate off the workbench/mat, you can use these plates double-sided with different grit pastes. I only have one of the Veritas plates, which is sufficient for use with the two fine diamond pastes.
There was a poster on here who was going to make some plates up (surface ground) from cast iron he had lying around, but I can't find the thread on search.

I use large used brake discs off cars. They didn't cost anything and fortunately I was able to get them machined for nothing but even paying for the machining it is still a cheap way to do it. A flywheel from manual gearbox a car would also be suitable as well and most probably better. If you were local to me I would give you one but any workshop should be able to help.
