Thread: cheap diamond stone chisel sharpening?

Hello everybody,

This is my first post. I have been thinking
about building a saz/baglama.

I bought a jack plane. It fell on the ground a
few times. I made it completely straigt again,
but have not been able to make it sharp.

I found these diamond stones on ebay:

The stones are coarse, fine and extra fine. I emailed
the seller asking what grit they were. The response was
400,3500, 6000. I emailed another seller the same question,
this time the answer was from 300-900. I think the last one is
probably correct.

My question is can these stones make my plane blade sharp?
I know some of you make it very sharp using waterstones up to 8000 grit, but will 900-1000 grit with these diamond stones make the plane iron sharp enough to cut wood easily? Or do you guys think it is useless?

I could also buy a japanese combination waterstone with 1000/3000 grit and a Roszutec sharpening stone grit 6000. Or a Japanese natural waterstone amakusa(grit 400-800)
and the Roszutec stone(grit 6000). I prefer not to buy
stones made with aluminium oxide. Would the amakusa
and Roszutec stone be enought for sharpening?

The Japanese combination stone is 18 euros and the roszutec stone is 10 euros. The Amakusa 22 euros.

The diamond stones I had mentioned are about 20 euros combined.

I don't use my jack plane a lot. Just want to use it to make a few saz a year. What should I do?
