Default Chip in New Scheppach TiGer 2500 Wheel

    Hi,

I've just acquired a brand new Scheppach TiGer 2500. On assembly I have noted that the wheel has a chip out of it on one edge, about 3mm in diameter.

I'm aware I'll probably need to true it before use to properly square it up, meaning I'll take at least some of it off. Nonetheless I feel it it's a bit below what I should expect, and I shouldn't have to reduce my wheel diameter by 1 - 1.5 mm straigth out of the box.

I'd be happy to hear your $0.02 before I take it back though - Maybe this is really common?m I'd be very surprised though.

Yes you will have to true the wheel but no you do not need to go all the way down to the bottom of the chip

You still have a large surface are to work with and will not notice it too much.

The one thing to check is that the wheel is still sound and that the chip is not the start of a crack.

Tap the side to hear a ring not a thud.

I agree with Jim. The chip is no biggie, as long as it is not a crack - which I doubt. The wheels are not rocks you know. They chip if treated unkindly. Still, 3mm is nothing to fuss over. It will lap away quite quickly in normal use.

OK thanks guys, your combined $0.04 is the info I needed. No sign of a crack, I'll get to work truing it up - got the Tormek dresser with depth adjusting screw for this - and onto the pile of chisels in need of restoration.
