    Default Drill bit sharpening jig ideas and links please

    So I’m finding I use the bench grinder less and less for sharpening drills and am going mainly to the radius master belt linisher as it is quick and reliable. I want to MAKE a jig for drill bits that bolts or fits onto the tool rest, but there’s nothing suitable on the radius master site, it seems they are geared up mainly for the knife making artisans. I know I could buy something and modify it, which could be an option, but making one from scratch is preferred, anyone have any ideas or proven designs or links or whatever? Thanks.

    Personally I use a dedicated drill bit sharpening machine (Darex) but this video from AskWoodMan shows a simple jig.
    Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

    Safety warning; Woodman's technique places his index finger of his left hand dangerously close to the ungarded side of the wheel, especially when sliding the jig.

    I use that technique and it works quite well, with following refinements:
    • No part of hand should be forward of jig,
    • If you place "hold down" finger closer to tip of bit, then it will act as heat sensor long before you overheat and blue the bit tip,
    • light touch, only. If you take too much metal off on facit then point of bit will move sideways. Must be really careful to ensure point remains in centre of bit.
