Record Power WG250 Sharpening System
Has anyone seen or used a Record Power WG259 Sharpening System R895 | WG250 Wetstone Sharpener | machineryhouse.com.au. Just a little over half the price of a Tormek T7 which I know is the best, but the best sharpening system or better red wine on a limited budget that is my dilemma.

I have read several reviews and most have been positive but Jim Carrol is not so impressed.
I had a look at one and thought it was well made with a good strong support arm for the jigs.
It is a far better looking machine than any of the other el cheapos out of China.
I really cannot see it being far behind the Tormek for the money.
Just my 2c.

Well I bit the bullet and purchased the Record Power WG250 and could not be happier. Out of the box the stone was true and everything ran smoothly. I did use the truing tool just because it was there but I do not think it really needed it. So far I have only done a couple of plane blades a few chisels and of course some knives to keep her in doors happy. One of the chisels was in pretty bad condition with big chunks out of it but after about 25 minutes it now has a mirror finish and is the sharpest tool I have ever owned. The machine itself is quite well built and very solid looking - perhaps not a pretty as the Tormek T7 but still a good machine. Will it be as durable as a Tormek? Don't know but it comes with a 5 year warranty. The jigs I have work well. Again not quite as well finished as the comparable Tormek jigs but they do the job for which they are designed. The main difference for me on a tight budget is that with cost of the machine and the jigs I have I have saved about $500 compared to the Tormek T7 and jigs.

I can't comment on the quality of the Record. But I can tell you the last "offer" from Tormek was too good to refuse. A machine with one grey wheel and 3 spares when you ran out. That sold me on my second Tormek - the other machine has the black silicone wheel for higher grade steel chisels.
Anyway, I hope it works out for you. I assume you can use the Tormek jigs if needed?
